Width of club sole

Does the width of the sole on an iron affect ball flight? For instance, the sole widths vary on the various new Ping irons. How would those sole widths affect the flight of a ball struck solidly by the a good golfer making identical swings? Many thanks.

Low wide soles are done primarily for the LOWERING of the Center of Gravity of a golf club. Mostly this will produce higher shots.

Also, the wider sole is more forgiving of fat shots.

For example, if I had a new set of PINGS I would play with mutiple "versions"
of irons.

Like:

Tour W 60° & 54° wedges.
I-10 pw-5 iron
G-10 4 and 3 irons
G-10 19° Hybrid

Obviously, your IDEAL set may vary.
