Wow! What a cool video!

I just watched "ideas about the release" and I have to say that I'm pretty excited about it. It has a lot of neat ideas (many of which go against other modern ideas) and I'm really interested in trying to execute the movements and learn more about the golf swing.

For the last few years, I have been a handle dragger. I learned how to do it because I thought my flipping was the worst thing in my swing. I worked on getting more and more shaft lean... and I actually got good at it. I could hit a knock down draw 58* wedge 115 yards with no problem...all I had to do was get my hands far in front of the clubhead at impact and boom, there it was.

But I noticed something else, with my longer clubs I wasn't hitting the ball as far as I used to. In reality, the more I managed to drag the handle the slower I seemed to swing. This was confusing to me, as I always had thought that the more I held onto my angles, the more I would deloft the club and the farther I would hit it.

I watched the release video twice yesterday, and a lot of things made sense. I'll have to watch it a few more times to get a better understanding but I'm pretty excited.

I think the neatest thing is that I stopped handle dragging spontaneously because I felt it was slowing me down and making me come in steeper than I had previously. I'll attach a Youtube video of myself doing my post handle dragging "flip swing". Its not really flippy I guess, but I see some of the basic elements of the release in it.

My swing is far from perfect, but I only managed to get in about 15-20 rounds last year and I was still able to keep a respectable 7 handicap. I feel that I could drop it more if I could get out more often (and like everyone else work on my short game).

I just want to play the best I can, and I think understanding the release will be a big part of that.

Thanks to Brian and the whole crew of researchers for their hard work!

There is some regular speed shots around 40 seconds.

golfman, your swing is very interesting! Glancing at your videos, the thing that quickly pops into my mind is "Stack And Tilt." Have you worked with that method before? This could be a fascinating case study.

I just saw a student that came back from the Univ of Hartford. We worked throughout the summer on maintaining his swing to be competitive. He had more lag than you can possible imagine. I made some suggestions, plus he agreed that it was weird to him that he wasn't longer since he had always heard the more lag the better. He was 89 mph and about 178 carry with a 6 iron. He went to school and had a mediocre fall. With more time on his hands after the season he took some advice to heart and went after a fuller turn, a wider hand path from the top and actually releasing the club head. I hadn't seen him for awhile and when he came back this past weekend, he said he did 5000 reps (he counted) and the change was unreal. I'm gonna try to figure out how to post pics (it's pathetic that I can't) but he was at 96mph and 194 carry. Plane line and dynamic loft stayed the same but attack angle was a constant -3.7

As the new breed is now saying, you're "overtaking rate" is so much better. Good to see you back around here and actually releasing the club head. No flip there, buddy.

WOW! This guy may symbolize the revolution.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I'm also really interested in applying the release to my pitch shots. I found that the shorter the swing, the more forward shaft lean I had as a handle dragger. This worked ok for chips, but on a 40+ yard pitch it was a problem. If I didnt make perfect contact I either chunked my shot or tried to save it and hit it thin. I'm very interested to hit some good pitches again haha.

In response to your question Lifter, I did do S&T about 4 years ago. I only did it for one season... mostly because I couldn't really make sense of it and had a hard time applying the swing method. I don't regret it though, as I learned lots about the swing from researching about it and other methods.

I can definitely still see some elements of S&T in my swing though!
