I just watched "ideas about the release" and I have to say that I'm pretty excited about it. It has a lot of neat ideas (many of which go against other modern ideas) and I'm really interested in trying to execute the movements and learn more about the golf swing.
For the last few years, I have been a handle dragger. I learned how to do it because I thought my flipping was the worst thing in my swing. I worked on getting more and more shaft lean... and I actually got good at it. I could hit a knock down draw 58* wedge 115 yards with no problem...all I had to do was get my hands far in front of the clubhead at impact and boom, there it was.
But I noticed something else, with my longer clubs I wasn't hitting the ball as far as I used to. In reality, the more I managed to drag the handle the slower I seemed to swing. This was confusing to me, as I always had thought that the more I held onto my angles, the more I would deloft the club and the farther I would hit it.
I watched the release video twice yesterday, and a lot of things made sense. I'll have to watch it a few more times to get a better understanding but I'm pretty excited.
I think the neatest thing is that I stopped handle dragging spontaneously because I felt it was slowing me down and making me come in steeper than I had previously. I'll attach a Youtube video of myself doing my post handle dragging "flip swing". Its not really flippy I guess, but I see some of the basic elements of the release in it.
My swing is far from perfect, but I only managed to get in about 15-20 rounds last year and I was still able to keep a respectable 7 handicap. I feel that I could drop it more if I could get out more often (and like everyone else work on my short game).
I just want to play the best I can, and I think understanding the release will be a big part of that.
Thanks to Brian and the whole crew of researchers for their hard work!
There is some regular speed shots around 40 seconds.
