January 22 marks the Year of the Monkey (Chinese calendar). So this non-Oriental, after a Christmas break and lots of discussion with former PGA professional son, now reinstated amateur, decided that, at my age, I better get a few things on record.
In other words, I'm going to "monkey" with "the system." Funny part is, I know it will make Homer Kelley smile like there is no tomorrow, and it may not be too long before I get to have a chat with him. (Of course, if I can't get a tee time, I'm not going!)
There are so many myths out there in golf, that I propose to start with the ones I see. Maybe you don't see them, or maybe you just disagree. Any of that is OK with me, but I'm going on the record.
Here is my list. I will try to address them individually, though not all at once....please. You can add or contest. Either way, I'll like it.
Here are a few of the things surrounded by myth that I keep seeing over and over, questionably visited(only for the last 50 years, though). (I edited the preceding sentence since originally, I really did not say what I meant to. It's OK by me now).
Trust
"Muscle memory."
What is reported about "Zones."
What "automatic" means and how it works.
How learning takes place.
Playing the game "within yourself."
The game is 90% mental.
The game is all a matter of will power - "Just do it."
The place of visualization in the game.
Hypnosis can solve all your problems.
Just play through the anxiety, or otherwise known as "mental toughness."
The role of NLP is learning and playing.
How to practice.
The Big Three: Confidence, Concentration and Consistency.
I put those on the list as the starters. Add if you want (or must). I'll "preach" on each text later.
