I like Jack, but...

All I am saying is that THIS version (circe Golf My Way video) of the Jack Nicklaus golf swing, is VERY CLOSE to my SOft Draw pattern except for the slight fade finish.

Listening to Jack talk about "release" makes me get the hives.

Just watch the swing, and turn down the sound.

PS The same thing works great for network golf coverage.

what are the advantages/disadvantages of impact hands at address?

I personally don't like them.

I have students that I allow to use them, but there aren't many of those.

Jack Nick-LOSS reverses his hands a bunch on the takeaway and winds up like he had mid-body hands anyway.

Impact hands are great for teachers who have trouble teaching students to GET their hands to impact correctly. It makes them feel better.

I have NEVER, EVER seen a live lesson given, where the teacher got better IMPACT from forward hands at address, because of those forward hands.

But, hey, if it works for you...;)

i know for a fact that the majority of good players around my club have forward hands. maybe not 'impact hands' with left wrist flat, RFOP etc etc but they have the shaft leaning forward and hands above or infront of the ball.

the way i see it, they produce different feelings in the takeaway. forward hands leads to more of a left shoulder push-away, or a carry back i think its been called. mid body hands, for me, leads to a drag a way or a LCT feel

Yeah, I have tinkered with forward and even "impact hands" at address and never liked it, I get better contact with the ball, but not as much compression leading to losing length, and I cant afford that... Is there a reason why I would loose length in my clubs from forward hands at address?

cant load the club as well

cant load the club as well

yeah that makes sense... why is that, because you have already semi cocked your wrists, and your not going to get the same amount of torque at the top of the backswing/start of the downswing?

ps, sorry if I completely butchered the meaning of those words, I'm still trying to learn proper "manzellanieze"

your wrists aren't necessarily 'cocked' with forward hands. if anything they are uncocked, espcially if you set up at impact. basically you cant benefit from the loading of the shaft that people like hogan and nicklaus (because he undid his forward hands in his takeaway) used to their advantage to stress the shaft and generate power in the transition.
