Aiming the shot

Ok, what is the concensus for how to line up a shot. I currently use a spot 6 inches infront of the ball, on the target line to aim, but found out today that I'm aiming 40 yards left now. Are there any other reliable ways to do this, I just can't seem to aim at my target.

When you were lining up the clubface first, you weren't lining it up to your target. You were picking a spot to aim it too and you did, however that "spot" wasn't going towards the target.

Aiming....the Cliff's Notes...

1. Take a last long look at the target from behind.

2. Walk into the ball RIGHT FOOT FIRST, and WITHOUT STEPPING across the "line of srimmage" aim the SHAFT of the club 90° to the PLANE LINE

3. Align your body to the club

4. GO!

Brian, can you help me to understand this? As I understand it, the plane line is the "target line". How would I get it to 90 degrees to the plane line?
