Brian's "bounce the golf ball drill".

This thing is golden. Went to the range day before yesterday and bounced about 6 balls. Then picked up a club, hit some good, some bad. Bounce some more and hit some more, better striking this time. Continued this through a small bucket of balls.

Played yesterday and struck the ball better than I have in years. Drove it long (for me anyhow) and stuck quite a few irons in close. What I found out was that picking a spot where I wanted to "bounce the ball" helped amazingly with my aiming and aligment. Played pretty much the whole round without any swing thoughts.

Thanks a lot Brian.

Now do something new on putting. :D

Hmmm....sounds like a way to do "aiming point". A similar thought helps me out a lot when my impact gets bad.

Thanks!

Thanks klutes and hcw. I started watching that video when it first went up, but I only to got up the part before the drill (I was at work! and had to turn my attention elsewhere). Looks like a great drill, and might really help me with my tendency to use the arms/hands too much especially when I'm trying to hit down and through the ball. It seems like a good way to visualise and practice using the pivot to 'wallop the ball' but also to get your right shoulder down the plane (often those two things are in some tension for me, given my own swing tendencies).

Drill for who?

Is the bouncing ball drill universally good for evryone or is it more aimed for say a slicer, hooker, etc.

Cliff notes: who is this drill good for?

I put my son in this drill, here is the picture of his PW shot. True this is a golden tips from Mr. BM, any comments? we still working on lag and arms tension, early hip fire etc.. any idea how to do it?

Great swing. Keep up the good work. He should do that drill often. At impact, his right shoulder is back a little and his right arm is spent, or straight, a little soon, especially with a wedge. I'll bet both are in a better position when he bounces the ball. Film him doing it and compare.

If I could just remamber to snap the left leg, while I'm remembering to trace the straight plane and keep my left wrist flat. Oh yes, and pivot on the downswing. It's a hall of horrors in my little brain

Good points, is it have to be late release a bit, he is trying to maintain his lag more, try to get more distance, pls advise in how to do it, I will get back to review Mr. Manzella tips. Here are his latest swings with his driver:

as you can see his back swing is a bit too slow, especially on take away (first move).

Thanks

Don't touch this driver swing!! Beautiful. Any issues,if any, could be attributed to age. Looks like plenty of lag. I would think he's a better driver than wedge/iron player. If that the case, keep bouncing the ball and review Manzella's "lagging the sweetspot" you tube. It will help him get a little steeper, less roll, and help him move more left with his irons.

I concur...

with doubled (Kevin).

The bounce the ball drill, and maybe a touch more forward ball position, will get his Right Shoulder more forward at impact.
