Pause at the top?

Was this guy an ex basebal player? His pause and moves at the top remind me of a basebal players moves with a bat while waiting for a pitch.
 
He can't be accused of having a hitting instinct (I.e in too much of a hurry to hit the ball)

There must be loss of energy/power though.
 
I did a mini-experiment with Mitch McDowell last year at the World Scientific Congress of Golf to compare swing speeds with and without a pause. I used an SSR radar device and he topped out at 1 mph faster with the pause. He was pretty surprised as I remember it.

Fujita's swing doesn't look very dynamic, although he does load the club a bit at the top.

Lots more research to be done.
 
I always found that I hit the ball more solidly when I "paused " at the top of the swing, but I don't know if I lost speed or not. However, I always felt I played better with the "pause" than not. Just my opinion.
