Wide to Narrow

There seems to be some disagreement on an old concept of swinging "wide to narrow." Some instructors teach maximum width on the backswing and downswing, while others teach wide back and a smaller tighter circle coming down. What's the deal? Are they both right for some people?

Wide to narrow is generally a good thing but definately can be overdone and isn't for everyone. How you load the shaft has alot to do with it. I would think that every great striker is more narrow coming down.

Th first time I watched Lucas Glover at the Zurich Classic he was obviously a float loader and was blowing it by VJ by 20 yards all day long.

David Toms, Ernie Els, and KJ Choi lose some angle at the start of the downswing. They all end up narrow at some point in the downswing but would be good examples of players who don't float wide to narrow like, say, Lucas Glover or Sergio.
