See image halfway into downswing - his right shoulder has hardly moved from to of the backswing position BUT hand are nearing waste level... is does this suggest independent arm movement or just more rotational movement from the top of backswing? Also do you think his right shoulder should be more down at low point position? Thanks

golfbulldog--click on images 5 and 6 to enlarge. There's no way you can tell me there's not SIGNIFICANT movement in the shoulders.

Care to compare Sergio's shoulder height position in the transition to players who's sequences I've posted?

Just commenting that Sergio, like Hogan and other great players ( swingers) who seem adjust on downswing to elbow plane for release ALSO keep that right shoulder quite high until later in the downswing.... I know that i will not be the only person on this forum to misunderstand "right shoulder downplane" and start this movement too early!! Back pain has decreased considerably since realising this mistake!:D

golfbulldog--I guess I don't understand the concepts involved, but I hope you find the pictures useful.

Adam Scott (circa Doral 2007)

What Johnny Miller calls "the most on plane swing in golf". I can't find the source where I read that, but believe me, this was an actual quotation.

I am asking questions about the relative movement of the rotational versus upwards/downwards motion of the shoulders. One of the concepts within TGM is that the right shoulder moves down plane. I , like many others i presume, used to get my right shoulder going down to soon... trying to go down plane... incorrectly... in most pro's swings the vertical height movement of the right shoulder seems to come later ... nearer impact...( compare Hogan 5 and 6 below - there appears to be more early rotation rather than vertical height movement of the shoulders)

See Brian's diagram here (cropped by me)

It does seem to help to focus on the left shoulder like Brian advises. TGM describes right shoulder movement because that is the part of the body that has an anatomical and geometric aligment during the swing... but learning this alignment does seem to be easier with your mind in your left shoulder!

Thanks for the explanation, but for the most part, I'm ignoring any instructional advice that doesn't have something directly related to the Never Hook Again pattern I'm working on. What a great video!
