I have heard about the "mid sole pitch/chip" for a while and have no idea what it is either. Super curious!!!!!

Imagine pitching on concrete ground. A "leading edge" pitch would create scratch marks towards the leading edge of the sole of the clubhead. A "mid sole" pitch would create scratch marks more towards the middle of the sole, hence the clubshaft slightly less forward leaning at impact.

Thanks tongzilla. Makes total sense. what is the reason? softer landing? More control with less spin?

My guess is that it to goes higher and will land softer with less roll out because of MORE spin since it feels like you're sliding under the ball. Although it sounds similar to more of a throwout lob shot Brian talks about in his Over and Out video. If you do that with more of a standard swivel is that what's considered a mid-sole pitch?

OUCH!!!! My brain is seriously starting to hurt with all the "riddles" lately. :)

If you need a shot with more spin that lands softer, then yes it is the shot. The standard chip, where you take a leading edge divot, sometimes doesn't allow the type of control you need, but it is great for shots that need more "run out".

It's just a different short game shot to add to the arsenal.

Thanks glcoach. Just kidding about the riddles. I had been reading some of the physics posts and my head was spinning (too much centrifugal force on the brain) :)
