Toms at the U.S. Open practice round today!

I was out taking photos of many players at Torrey Pines today. I haven't taken photos of golfers before and I made sure that cameras were allowed during the practice rounds. I was concerned about the shutter noise for the first few players, but none of them seemed to mind. I was just about to leave when David Toms came up to the tee near me. I set up my shot and clicked away. He hit a lousy shot, then turned and complained about the cameras (there were several other guys taking photos as well). Sorry about that, David. Anyway, he asked (sarcastically) if I'd send him a copy of the photo. I don't have his email addy, so maybe Brian can forward these for me. ;)

Pictures look pretty good. What kind of camera and what was shutter speed?

Thanks, I used a Canon 40D and the shutter was around 1/2000. It was a very challenging day for photos - the light was strong but it was very cloudy, so everything looked backlit.

I have a bunch more shots of Mickelson, Immelman, Zach Johnson, Harrington, etc. I'll try to get some time to post them, it just takes a while doing thrm one by one. I wish there was an easier way to post them.

Post them up, please! I'd PM Brian about getting them up easier, he might be willing to take some time and help. He is a busy man though :) .

If you look at the picture just before he gets to the top he looks to have his left wrist matched to the club face but then look at the photo at the top and it looks like the face is shut compared to his left wrist? Is this an optical allusion?

Look at the last pic....maybe a bit of a flip?...or no?....

I was taking pics, so I didn't really see. But David hit a second ball (No one took pictures after being scolded!). When he went to hit his 2d shot, he was in the right rough. I think he flipped his hands in this photo series to save the shot, but was too late and it went right.

Nope.

That's his grip.

There is ZERO flip in David's swing.

He does wind up too far left when he gets below plane.

To clarify, Brian, I didn't mean that he flipped at impact. I meant that it looks like he tried to save it after he hit it.

I just saw that you offered to post the pics for me. I noticed too late, but thanks for the offer. BTW, when are you coming out to California again?

No flip.

This is a pic taken from video I took of David in New Orleans last year.

David has ZERO flip in his swing.

Bending the left wrist—long after the ball is gone—is VERY orthodox, and part of his clubface control.

Just as I talk about in NSA, when I show the three left wrist positions in the swivel.
