SD backswing + NHA downswing

Ok, Brian has mentioned several times now that the above is a good pattern. Desperately trying to get rid of my hook, I hit some balls in my garage last night to find out myself. The end result was good contact on some shots but also A LOT of shanks. I haven't shanked all year that I can remember. Need to go try this on grass as well but does anyone know why this would be happening with this "new pattern"? Thanks

I would be nice to get some feedback on this. The first time I used SD an course it seemed to work very well, but now I've developed a similar problem. I have not spent much time on the range, but I hit balls to a net in my basement. I hit the shanks mostly with half punch shots, not so much with full swing. Contact is most often thin. The only way I've found to cure this quickly is to use twistaway to keep face closed all the way, but then the ball often goes way left. Often too, I start getting fats instead when I try to take the club back more inside with steeper shoulder turn.

I might have gotten rid of the problem, but I'm not really sure why it happened in the first place. Getting back to basics helped. Fats came from swinging too far from inside as was suggested in another thread (thanks for that).
Was I somehow too far inside & above plane when shanking?
