Callaway Tour i Series (i and ix) golf ball

Tried it last weekend. What an amazing ball. Absolutely love it. If you don't lose balls often you should definitely try it.

I'm more of an 'IX' kind of guy. I have to admit, for a tour ball even a guy like me can make that ball go like stink. I'm not too fond of it for putting though. But this ball will work for tons of people of various skills which I think is amazing.

HX is similar to the IX and the I is similar to the HX Tour 56...

The IX is one of the longest balls in golf but the I is a better ball. It spins a ton more around the greens and is much softer and isn't that much shorter than the IX off the tee. I'd put the I maybe 7-10 yards behind the IX at the most but it's a worthwhile tradeoff for the spin around the greens you get.

I always thought you could just use a lower spin driver to make up for it too, yes?

doesn't always work like that...what happens if you lose those 7 yards because the spin is 650rpm too high and you are already comfortable/confident with your driver. Are you really going to go through more drivers and shafts to get the 7-8 yards back and then get comfortable with the new change?

I'd rather just lose the yards, stay confident in my current combo and use the extra spin to score around the greens

This ix is loooong. My irons were half to three quarters of a club longer. My driver was longer by 5-10 yards. Haven't tried the "i" yet Jim, but the ix is soooooft too...and spins ok :)

I would like to know what kind of greens you guys play on lol. While the IX spins "ok" its not enough imo to play on hard fast greens to consistently score well. on slower softer greens ill admit the ix works fine

The greens I played this summer were baked out and like concrete. The ball worked great....different strokes, different folks

Maybe you need to work on the mid bounce chip/pitch....hit that shot correctly and you can play with a Pinnacle. ;) How's the run at top level Am golf going?

Maybe i need new wedges then lol....mid bound chip/pitch works OK but i like to have the ability for the ball to stop must faster w/o having to use the tour pitch due to the level of skill/danger involved in that type of pitch, much less room for error.

Also if i remember right you play a fade which would help you with the IX ball.

Am stuff isn't going as well as i hoped, i suffered a major injury 2 years ago this upcoming January and last year was healing and i mucked up my golf swing which i found out THIS year. Went to brian to fix it up and am just now getting back to my pre-injury form. However now that i'm not teaching i don't "find the time" to practice/play as much and thus my handicap actually went up significantly. So i don't know if i want to call this year a "bust" and just focus on trying what i wanted to do this year on 2010 or just for go it all and go back to teaching as my finance career is going well.

Decisions, decisions

Agree. Callaway i and ix are the first balls I've hit that make me think about going away from Pro V-1 and 1x. I'm also really curious to read some stats on something close to my swing speed to see what distance and spin differences are.

You are right, I am a fader. Good luck with your decision.

I really like the taylormade black. I find the callaway i does not do well hitting into the wind. Downwind, it carries a long way, into the wind, it is shorter than the taylormade.

very observant. I found that too.

So far, I found the Nike One Platinum to be the best ball going into the wind. But you can't switch balls going into the wind can you!

This is about the weirdest thing i've ever seen you write, ever LOL.

Now i consider myself an equiptment afficionado/snob (whatever you choose to call me) and that just doesn't make any sense. The Platinum is without a doubt the highest spinning premium ball that you can purchase; due to that it will tend to spin a lot into the wind and balloon excessively.

By most accounts from user opinions it is without question that the vast majority of opinion that the Callaway series are the best when you are considering wind and obviously the lower spinning versions (IX series, older HX Tour series) will be the best because they spin less than the I or the 56 Tour series.

-----------

I would definately call you the exception LOL

hmm...I found the Callaway ix to spin more that the Platinum (so the "i" would spin even more!). The Platinum was definitely shorter for driver and irons. Platinum just pierces the wind better for me. And with wedges, they go low and stop. Callaways fly higher.
