Hi there,

Last night had a lesson with an instructor i've seen a number of times. Progress has been good but we've reached a sticking point and ended up not being able to move past it.

Tendency is to get onto the left side too quickly with too much lateral movement, the clubhead gets too far behind and inside my hands. Basically i'm not dropping my arms enough and getting them 'in front' in the downswing before pivoting and closing the clubface enough with the body. It needs to feel for me that i'm staying on my right side longer.
We've both agreed that point and understand in theory what needs to happen but have both struggled to find a drill to help ingrain the feel while hitting balls. The only thing so far is the so called 'pump drill'. Have seen never hook again which is close to what we are working on... just can't get the 'drop' happening in sequence.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Pretend you are a banana ball hacker for 10 balls. Problem solved. That will be 50 bucks, I accept paypal......

Instead of you and your instructor attempting all this drop your arms first overcomplication you could just imitate a typical slicer who shoots 100 for ten range balls and it would become very clear to you what to do. This information is honestly worth triple whatever you pay your instructor. Try it.

OK, so these drills are for someone that swings too far RIGHT. Is the path you're trying to achieve in these drills considered swinging pretty LEFT? Or is it just "NEUTRAL". I'd like to stick with SD but the hooks/pushes are telling me I swing too far to the right. If I try these drills will that mess up SD for me? For example, the "shoe drill" that's illustrated above. Would a "normal" SD swing hit that second ball or is that swinging too much left? I hope this makes sense. Thanks

PS I have NHA but that's a totally different pattern and I'd rather try to fix my SD swing. That's why I have a hard time trying to figure out the matrix. Sometimes you see members recommend NHA to someone that hooks the ball. But when you go to NHA, it takes away your hook but it also takes away your draw as well, correct? So what does one do when you don't want to hook but you still want to play with SD. I wish there was a NHA 4 SD. Does that make sense? Maybe not, I'm tired and have been sick for a few days. Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks

nicklaus had a soft draw swing and hit fades. so you can definately not hit hooks doing SD.

try and make the "points" point a little more left than right of the target, and try to hav your hips more open at impact

lol. This reminds me of a friend of mine who came out with the most profound piece of golfing knowledge known to man:

Conversation went like this:

Me: "Joe, I'm hookin the arse off it again"
Joe: "I've got the best anti-hook tip of all time"
Me: "Surely I need more than just a tip big guy? I need to take some lessons with someone who knows what they're talking about."
Joe: "Nope, save your money. It works every time for me"
Me: "OK, tell me"
Joe: "Just try to slice it! You'll never hook it when you're trying to slice it!"

Simples, no?

this sounds eerily close to something a certain Manzella academy instructor just told me...And it works. Although in my case all the thought is doing is getting me to swing left properly. I was swinging out to right field and didnt know it.

I try to make as many static changes as I can, figuring it to be a greater challenge to change something already in motion. Setting up a bit like Kevin Sutherland has helped me a ton. By that I mean a lot more forward bend at address. It seems to help me create an in path for my hands, and it appears to help me tumble. If you tend to stand up too early or too much can it be as simple as increasing the forward bend at address?

Glad somebody else noticed how much he tumbled it and went left! I was watching this guy a month or so ago and slow mo'd his swing on my DVR...wow look at that tumble/leftward path!

He's pretty far down the distance list at 282.1, but he's a Furyk type ball striker. Garrigus is the longest on tour and has very similar plane shift ingredients.
Got rained out today and it didn't even really rain...California people are too spoiled.
