Golf Stuff to buy????

Hello All...Due to the Storm that is slamming into most of the country today I get to stay home and prey that my electricity doesn't go out..Wooohooo. Since I am a new golfer and at some point in the next couple of months I will be able to start playing...outside. I started thinking about some new golf gadgets that I will get to buy once my tax return check comes in... Here is what I have been thinking and you guys..and gals, can tell me in what progression you think I should do this. So, first of all I know that I am using alot of it on golf lessons..so bam there goes about $1000 gone:eek: Gotta pay to learn from the best. So here is my dilemma....you think I should get a nice tricked out video camera(casio exilim), or get fitted for some golf clubs??? I mean really fitted from a guy I have talked to that really knows his stuff...like used to work with Wishon..has a trackman etc.etc. I currently have a driver that has a "Regular Shaft" with 13 degrees of loft on it and feels like a noodle in my hands when I swing it. I have measured my Driver swing speed...and if I swing in balance and can hold the finish I swing it around 116-118 mph every time and if I really want to go all out I top out at 124mph. Float loading is the greatest:) Any input is much appreciated.

All the best,

VJ

i'd reccomend you did neither ;)

you really dont need a very good camera at this stage, neither do you need a fully fitted set of clubs. look for a good set of 2nd hand taylormades, callaways or pings as they are not only very good clubs, but last a very long time. they also wont cost you that much. if you really can swing at nearly 120mph then make sure they have stiff shafts. and get a driver with around 10-12* loft and a stiff shaft. get sum wedges. a 54/56 and a 60 should be fine and get a putter with a design you like. that should be all you need.

the main reason you dont want to get fitted this early is because at this stage of your development your swing will change many times and the types of clubs you need will also change. so dont shell out lots on clubs which may not fit you in the near future

I agree, no real need to overdo it. You can find a mini-dv under $200 that will work fine. I think it's important to have a camera and I like to think of the camera as 'my 15th club in my bag.' But, most golfers don't need some high end camera and that's more meant for teachers.

As far as clubs go, I would probably go get fitted. Mainly because if you talk to clubfitters, most of them are convinced that golfers are good at adapting their swing to fit the 'flaws of the club.' Thus, they are creating flaws in their swing in order to adjust to some clubs that don't fit them. IMO, this is the most important time for a golfer, when they are starting out. If somebody like yourself learns incorrectly, chances are you will really struggle to become a low handicap golfer. However, you can get some used clubs and then get the shafts, lies and lofts changed and still save quite a bit of money compared to buying a brand new set.

Get some kind of training device for your putting stroke. There are a ton of different products out there. You can do some really good work on your putting stroke while inside. It's a good time to focus on mechanical side of putting without having to worry about break and speed.

Hell, it sounds like you have a lot of money so why not get a nice camera. Tape your swing and email it to Brian. I'm sure he wouldn't charge you much and it would give you a jump on your new hobby.

HaHa:DI wish I had money...Im a Professional Musician:eek:Im just trying to spend what I do have efficiently.

vj buddy if you swing over 115 you probably need an X-flex.

You want good fitting all around no doubt but if you have too weak a shaft in your driver especially........and your spin rates get too high.........you are in for a big of loss of yardage.
