Trackman and Range Balls

Do you think there is much of a distance difference when using different types of balls and using range balls on the trackman. The facility that I am at just purchased a Flightscope and a dumping of snow has arrived with it. Once the snow clears I will be testing different balls on the machine to see the results.... but was looking for some input from anyone with some hard nosed data.

Absolutely. When I got fitted for my irons using Trackman, we utilized ProV1's first so we could see what my distances were with regular golf balls since they go much further and travel differently. After getting that down, we wanted to try the different lie angles, shaft lengths and shafts and we just used range balls since we had already had the 'real ball' data down.

If you're planning on using FlightScope (or Trackman) to get what your yardages truly are, you'll need to use 'real' golf balls.

Yes and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Range balls don't always vary a ton in ball speed to "real balls" they can vary a ton in regards to SPIN which is one the most crucial fitting criteria.

Jim, spin less with Range ball?

I am going for a driver fitting soon with Trackman (likely with range ball but its free). Would the spin likely be less than real balls, or unpredictable? Can I trust the launch angle?

launch angle shouldn't deviate but spin will, bring your own set of balls. Adds to the fitting but cheaper in the long run

Thanks Jim, that's a good idea. I meant the Trackman fitting itself is free as it is a promo for club sale. My swing is in pretty bad shape right now so it's not a good time to club-fit. I am just hoping to get a sense of where I am at with my current driver and what can be optimized.
