Based on D-plane all these descriptions of ball flights should be wrong. I'm trying to understand and give the correct ball flight. Call it a self-quiz and I would like the forum to correct me when I'm wrong and I'm sure I will be. I'm not looking to get too technical but would like to be able to learn from my ballflight while on the range or course.
Nine Ball Flights and Results
(Target Line constant)
1. Swing Path straight, clubhead square - ball will start straight and continue straight. Good straight shot.
2. Swing Path straight, clubhead open - ball will start straight and then curve to the right. Fault - clubhead open at impact. Result - slice.
3. Swing path straight, clubhead closed - ball will start straight and then curve to the left. Fault - clubhead closed at impact. Result - hook.
4. Swing path inside out, clubhead square to path - ball will start to the right and continue on a straight line to the right (no curve). Fault - Inside out swing with body not turned to target. Result - Block Push
5. Swing path inside out, clubhead open to path - ball will start to the right and curve further to right (slicing). Fault - Inside out swing with body not turned to target and open clubface. Result - Block Slice
6. Swing path inside out, clubhead closed to path - ball will start to the right and curve back to target (hooking). Fault - Inside out swing with clubhead closed at impact. Result - right to left draw.
7. Swing path outside in, clubhead square to path - ball will start to the left and continue on a straight line to the left (no curve). Fault - Outside in swinging motion (Over the top). Result - Pull
8. Swing path outside in, with clubhead open to path - ball will start to the left and curve back to target (slicing). Fault - Outside in swinging motion (Over the top) with clubhead open. Result - Pull Slice.
9. Swing path outside in, with clubhead closed to path - ball will start to the left and curve further to the left. Fault - Outside in swinging motion (Over the top) with clubhead closed. Result - Pull Hook.
New Rules (second guess assumes iron with low point forward of ball)
1. I'm gonna guess a slight pull with no curve Or is this a bit of a pull draw assuming low point is forward of ball resulting in a true in to out path?
2. small push Or small draw curving in to target?
3. big pull much more than #1 with no curve Or big pull draw
Starts getting very confusing if you assume low point forward of ball so I'll stop there before i make too big a mess. And I would like to assume that I'm striking the ball correctly with my irons. I take a divot forward of the ball. I know it's limited information. Many of you would like to know how many degrees open/closed for the face and swing path including AoA but in the simplest terms am I near correct?
I would also like for someone to give ball flights for a driver teed up with impact on a slight upswing.
Thanks,
Jonathan
