Combining Soft Draw and NHA?

Has anyone ever tried blending the various patterns together?

I have watched SD a bunch of times and recently purchased NHA (just got NSA as well, but haven't watched it yet). To me the backswings look somewhat alike in that the shoulders are steep. But in NHA the the shaft is 'lifted' up the wall whereas the takeaway in the SD pattern is a bit more inside, but eventually the hands do up quite a bit.

Brian does a real nice job in NHA talking about the downswing sequence (the toss is used to help explain the DS in the soft draw pattern). When I look at my old swing videos, many things are changing (most of them for the better) but the one thing that stays constant on most of the videos is my lack of hip turn through the ball. My hips get square and stay square. As a result, it looks like I stand up and the right shoulder doesn't move down very much. The elbow is straight - most Tour players have a bent right elbow well into the downswing and eventually straightens out at impact.

I think I can maintain the twist away and hook the ball if I want at will, but it seems that I am having an arms/hands dominated action with relatively little assistance from the lower body.

In other words, I sure as hell don't look like I am hitting the ball with my pivot. The pivot stops, the arms straighten, and if I am lucky - I hit the ball.

One thing I liked in NHA was the discussion of how Trevino, as he swung through, looks like he is sort of bent over (leaning to his right) with his weight gathered on the left heal. Can this 'look' be applied to the SD pattern?

Yep. The key is finding that BS pivot limit for you and then the transition forward move. IMO all the patterns released thus far mix together quite well..depends on the ultimate ball flight you're looking for. All the best.

One of the items on my long "to do" list, is a video called "The Blender."

It is about combining patterns.

A Soft Draw backswing and a Never Hook Again downswing is a REALLY GOOD pattern, and done just right, very close to the middle of the Manzella Matrix.

Jack's backswing with Hogan's push/cp/body left release?

I want Snead's swing, but with an orthodox top of the club position, push release, and a stock fade. I just need my ankle to heal so that I can get back into golf... Ever played golf with a soft cast?

I am a 5 handicap and have recently been introduced to the Manz Matrix. I have both the SD and the NHA videos....great information. I am (drum roll please)....going to see Brian next week for a three hour session. The reason I mention this is my backswing is very close to, and naturally btw, a SD pattern except at the top. My downswing is a mess!!! Blending the two sounds like something that I would love for Brian to work with me on. However, with most all posts I've read from those who have taken a lesson from Brian, that they went with some assumption of what would be done, yet walked away having been d-junked in some way. Anyway, I plan to post my experience with the MANZ in a little over a week. But if he says that the blend is a "very good pattern"...then my ears perk up.

Would it sound something this(very simplified of course):

Soft Draw backswing--club inside the wall with a turning the hips.

Top of backswing(question)--across the line still?

Downswing--down the wall(would need some carry to do this) and "shake the sugar" to impact.

Post impact and follow through--"down the yellow brick road".

Sounds like a very powerful pattern. I'll be working on it.

That's what I'm sayin too...sounds very powerful!

My Blender

SD Grip
SD Set-up without the right foot pulled back.
NHA type pivot, except with a "more still head"
Middle of Matrix arm swing in BS
NHA DS with the toss and maybe more "jump" with the driver
follow thru..depends on what shot I'm TRYING to hit..still learning that;)

I worked on it yesterday and today at the range and was able to hit some pretty nice shots consistently. I could hit both draws and cuts, but had difficulty doing it at will. Most of the shots were pretty darn straight. I need to video my swings to make sure I was doing the blend, but it felt pretty good.

I find it easy to Draw it with the Driver, but most shots are dead straight with a "hint" of draw, funny it wasn't that way about 3 weeks ago. I can fade it, but sometimes it turns into a push fade, depends on how under it I get and how hard I hold on, working on it. Honestly, being a newer golfer, right now I'm kind of obsessed with pounding the ball and just seeing how short of a club I can hit on every hole. I'll get out of that at some point, but right now it's really fun to see the look on my playing partners faces after I nuke one. With this pattern I certainly don't lack distance and if I don't get too excited, accuracy either. In the last couple of weeks I've either been around or on every par 5 I've played in 2. It's pretty darn fun right now.

I need this so badly.

Good luck with that. I'm 33, started when I was 11, I still try to pound the ball off the tee......doesn't work like it did when I was 21 (no jokes from the peanut gallery).

P.S. Lia- I want the blender video too. Basically I'm doing soft draw-ish back but with a Manzella neutral grip, add some carry and go with a focus on sweeping the ball with my hands forward.
