Lindsay Gahm of Louisville, Kentucky, who was the 2011 Big Ten Freshman of the Year in Women's golf playing for Indiana University, has transferred to LSU and will be eligible to play for the Lady Tigers this fall.

Gahm, who prepped at Louisville's Sacred Heart, won the Kentucky 5A State Championship as a Senior. She was named to second team All Big Ten selection at Indiana. Lindsay had two rounds in the 60's, four top ten, and two top five finishes in her rookie campaign.

She requested, and was granted a release to play in Baton Rouge for LSU, who finished the season ranked 8th nationally, and produced the NCAA Individual Champion in Austin Ernest.

Gahm wanted to be closer to her long-time teacher, Golf Magazine Top 100 Instructor Brian Manzella, of New Orleans, and to be able to play and practice year round in the warm southern climate of South Louisiana.

LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen was thrilled to be able to sign a proven top player as the Tigers push toward a possible National Championship.

Wow that's a huge signing! Congrats Brian on helping her get to the Bayou to play! Looks like LSU golf will continue to roll on well into next season.

Another scandalous move in the SEC that's slips under the radar. I call shenanigans! Let me guess Brian, LSU was the highest bidder and you are also a pastor with multiple churches.

Just teasing, good for her and her game to be close to the Manz.

The Big 10 is a sinking ship and no place for young promising talent. Nothing is more enjoyable than seeing Indiana diminished yet again.:D

Is she a lefty that plays righty?

How does that work then? Do they get payed, or just get everything paid by the college/uni? Are they headhunted? What's in it for the colleges?

Both men's and women's squads get 5 full scholarships (provided they are division I programs. Not sure about D-II. D-III doesn't offer scholarships).

The men's team...because there are more guys playing golf...usually have 10 guys on a team and each gets a 1/2 scholarship. Then they'll get some free financial aid. It will come out to about 70% paid.

Women's team...because there fewer girls golfing...it's a 100% free ride. They'll have 5 girls on a team, each gets a full scholarship.

Why do the colleges do it?

Makes the school more appealing overall. You also might get a golfer who turns pro, has success, and gives back a lot of money to the school as an alumni.

The schools have no choice in the amount of scholarships. If they give 5 full scholarship for the men, they have to give up 5 full scholarships for the women because of Title 9. Otherwise, they can't have those teams.

This is actually a good post for parents of junior golfers and those junior golfers. Transfers happen all of the time in college golf.
