Wow, what a divot with a 2 iron.

What about his swing made him not feel like he could play with steel shafts?

huh did it say he drove it 280 yards...with THAT equipment? That's easily Bubba Watson long using today's equipment.

Bobby Jones' swing speed was measured by Harold Edgarton using stroboscopic photography (he used a strobe light and measured the distance of the clubhead between strobes). He calculated his speed at about 112 mph.

Why doesnt anyone teach how bj swings seeing he was so great?

Who says no one teaches that? I certainly teach longer swings with more hip turn to people who need it. His downswing is extremely orthodox so it falls in line with what many would probably teach.

Because the vast majority of golf swing instruction is far from being perfect (speaking gently). They think that e.g. huge hip turn, breaking lead knee in, lifting lead heel up, being OTT at start of downswing, break lead wrist just after separation, etc. are errors. ROFL.

Cheers

When I was 14 and just starting to get interested in golf at all one of the first books I read was about Bobby Jones and The Grand Slam.
His swing has always seemed so athletic and not contrived with restriction or trying to hit positions. That is a cool video.

If you study Bobby Jones's life and golfing accomplishments, you will find that he was basically a weekend golfer. In his Grand Slam year, 1030, aside from the four major tournaments he won, he played very little other tournament golf. He was just simply born a golfing genius.

Golf Digest wasn't in print yet.

For just the pure delight of mastering the English language, read "Bobby Jones on Golf.". Or anything else he wrote.
