straight pulls

I'm hitting these beautifully struck straight pulls with most of my clubs lately. I don't mind that much because I'm just aiming about ten yards right and playing it and playing pretty well. But I'd ultimately like to hit it straighter because I deloft these shots very slightly. Any video of Brian's videos I could watch that could help straighten these pulls out a little bit?

I'm of no help but I was about to make a very similiar thread, finally got rid of the early tug was playing great then today out of nowhere straight pulling the ball off the planet, also very well struck but very unusual for me pulls. Maybe tug compensating for something?

I'll try to keep playing like that if there's no real problem with it. It is just very awkward for me to aim right and trust it.

Unless it's preventing you from creating the shot you need to hold greens, i wouldn't worry about it. A lot of times as golfers we "want" to be able to hit a consistent high straight shot; pros can't even do that on a consistent basis so how can we? Another thing to think about is if you move away from pulls and go towards a higher straight shot you will have to re-learn your iron distances because you'll be adding loft and hitting it shorter; are you ready for that? A lot of things to think about when you alter ball flight that much.

Hey Jim, I have heard that many times too, that Snead played a pull but when I look at footage of him on youtube I don't see any pull type swings. On a few swings I did see his feet aiming to the right but his body pretty neutral, not trying to start an argument, just curious. Sam Snead Swing Montage - YouTube

It usually doesn't prevent me from holding greens. I still hit the ball fairly high. They aren't big pulls but are definitely pulls. And adjusting to iron distances shouldn't be a problem, I've hit a lot of different types of shots and know what it does to my iron distances. Maybe I'm being too much of a perfectionist on this, but I've always been kind of a hand path more out with club underplane and then dragging left kind of guy. And I'm worried this is what I'm gravitating back to.

Closest i could find: Sam Snead 6 iron DTL - YouTube

From people who saw him swing who i've talked to all said something similar to the below (for a stock shot):

- aimed slightly right of his target
- backswing very "in" from the ball line
- downswing over the backswing (appeared to be over the top but really just over his inside backswing/takeaway)
- moved the path left of where he was aiming creating a slight pull-draw ball flight

Yes, Jim sums it up well. Watched Sam many times on the range at The Greenbriar - and was very fortunate to be invited to his 85th birthday celebration. He played a 9-hole exhibition that day. He still had that gorgeous swing - and his highly competitive nature - but his eyesight could no longer follow the ball as far as he could hit it. Amazing golfer.

Thanks Jim, it must have been very slight because I don't see much carry and his shoulders are pretty steep coming into impact. It's really more guess work trying to see these things on the old grainy video. Plus, what we know now with the d-plane and that to hit a straight shot you need to swing left. I just wonder if it is somewhat like Hogan where things over time get a bit exaggerated. Either way he had a beautiful swing.
