Manzella Netural Grip

I am using the NSA 2.0 pattern with pretty good success, however I am having an issue with the grip becoming too strong.

I will take the grip as shown in the video. I then lift the club up parallel to the ground to check the face. It is always 15-30 degrees closed. Is the normal? The only way I can get the face to line up is by gripping the club with the face 15-30 degrees open. I'm not sure if it matters but I wear a FJ Medium glove with standard size grips.

When I adjust it back to a true netural grip it really helps my swing. I have to tell myself hold the twist or it's going right! When I hold the twist with the strong face angle FORE LEFT! This may be the cause of my occasional pull hook.

Thanks!

you can play with a stronger grip with NSA but you have twist LESS, both backswing and downswing. Don't feel bad, with full blown NSA most people have trouble with such a weak grip.

Im hitting the ball pretty good with the netural grip. It really forces me to holld the twist which results in some real nice shots. My direction and distance have improved. I am still fighting in occasional OTT which turns into a bad pull hook.

I want to make sure I am not doing something wrong with the grip. I always have to turn the club weaker when I check it at parallel to the ground. Otherwise it is a good 20-30 degrees closed which as you said requires less twist or I hook it.

I have the same issue. I ended up getting ribbed grips, installing them myself and twisting the grips counterclockwise so that when taking the grip with the left hand, the face is pretty square. Using grip solvent, you have a good amount of time to adjust them.

Most likely you are regripping it before your takeaway and you just aren't noticing. Had a student like that and ended up having to do what you did, grip it way to open to allow for the "re-grip"

I asked on another thread but am still wondering what the thinking is behind the last two fingers being 90 degrees to the grip? This seems to make me less likely to fan the face open going back, but I'm wondering why. Any help appreciated.

I do something similar and was thinking about trying out some ribbed grips too. Does anyone know if they're availiable in a tour wrap? I've really only been able to find them in a tour velvet. Only online too, they don't have any at the local golf shops.

Make your own rib with the grip tape if a grip you want doesn't have it available.

Means grip is more in the fingers and less in the palms which also means heel pad more on top of grip.
