Fun with TrackMan Range numbers: Mine vs. PGA vs. LPGA averages

OK -- throwing myself under the bus. :p Thought it might be fun and educational to compare some Tour player numbers with those of a 56-year-old trying to work off the rust of a near two-year layoff from golf.

Here are the PGA and LPGA averages for a 6-iron, as currently shown on the TrackMan website. In between, are the averages for my 6-iron during a recent TrackMan range practice session (26 swings/shots). (Sorry, the TMan Range stats report doesn't include path, AoA, etc. -- and certainly NOT RoC ;)).

Any thoughts, observations and/or suggestions (along with the smart-arse comments) just based on these numbers?

My equipment: 712 AP2 6-iron w/31* loft; 1* flat; 1/2" short shaft (I'm 6'1" w/long arms); KBS Tour S shaft; our golf club uses the yellow Srixon balls for TrackMan Range sessions.

Thanks ...

You're hitting bullets with your 6 iron given your spin, max height and landing angle. That's why your ball rolls out 12 yards on average (which is a lot) and cuts down on the dispersion (which looks great).

I suspect courses longer than 6,200 yards are long for you given a 156 yard carry average for a 6 iron.

Yep -- should have added that I was working on having the ball in the dead middle of my stance, as some instructors suggest, which is a ball or two farther back than normal for me. Problem is, our home course has small, elevated greens, so the low land angle/run out combination isn't going to work.

I can, however, hit some towering iron shots when trying to execute the Out Toss.

No, if you're talking about the veteran Am player, he has a little more game than I do.

That's the one, isn't he from Nashville?

Wish TM published numbers like this from the Champions Tour. Do you know what your corresponding numbers are with your driver? Just curious.

Sounds like you can hit down on the ball a little more. Most people that play the ball back deloft the face but jack up their spin through the increased attack angle. You have room to increase your spin rate and hitting down might work for you. What flex and type of shaft (steel vs. graphite) do you use? I recommend you get fitted for irons on Trackman.

Driver fittings should all be on Trackman/FS for max height and landing angle numbers as well.

I think he is from somewhere in west Tennessee, but not sure; I've only lived here for 2 1/2 years. I haven't done a driver session on the TM Range since getting fitted for the D3. That's next. :)

Agree. And yes, the irons are brand new (played two rounds) and came as a result of a TrackMan fitting session. The shafts are KBS Tour stiff.

I went back and looked at the entire report. The height started out OK for the first 6-8 balls, then went down (significantly) when I deliberately moved the ball back. It is GREAT to have this technology to monitor what happens with certain swing thoughts, ball positions, etc.

I totally agree. I use it to confirm/reinforce my swing feelings. You realize how hard this game is once you get on Trackman.

You are using range balls; they tend to not spin as much in general and depending on condition don't attain as high of a ball speed either. Unless you were using the ball you normally play with it just isn't relative imo.
