In diagnosing the cause of a ball-flight problem, what emphasis does the location of impact on the clubface have? I have been pull hooking, the ball starting slightly left and curving more left. Contact is at the heel of the club consistently with a loss of clubhead speed on launch monitor. If contact was at the center of the club, would flight change or is that solely a path issue?
Jim/Dodger,
Don't know whether this is the same as you Dodger, but I was doing this with my driver some time ago and I don't swing out-to-in..I was swinging down the line, but with the heel strike effectively closing the clubface at impact, my shots were starting slightly left, then hooking. They were low hooks mostly...
I cured this with two things.
One was to address the ball off the toe (to counteract the visual illusion of a high teed ball) and two was to force myself to "swing left" instead of what I was probably unconciously doing, trying to swing down the line, fearful of the pull/pull hook..
This made sweet spot contact is dead on and the shots have straightened out nicely...
just a thought..
