Really nice swing, although I find it hard to believe he hits his 9-iron 190 yards and his driver 'only' 330 yards.

I play golf with a guy that hits his 7-iron a legit 200-210 yards and his 9-iron is in the 170 range, but his driver can easily go 350 on average.

Possible equipment issue with the driver? Probably a bit too much spin??

I remember those days - well, not really:D

Looks a little like a mini-tour player that I've played a few rounds with. Super strong right hand grip but hits it a mile with everything. I think the first time I played with him he shot 68. The last time I played with him he shot 82 and cost me $15 in a team game, but wanted to tell me about every shot he hit these prodigious lengths. Even though he was my partner I had to tune him out.

These guys bore me to death..... and they are EVERYWHERE!

I play with several college players and a mini-tour player regularly. A few of the college players "kill" the ball. 330+ is common off the tee. The mini-tour player around 290. At the end of the round, the "long ball hitters" are comparing drives and lamenting the bad breaks for their 75's. The mini-tour player posts a 67.

The long boys that don't score bore the crap out of me. And they are usually terrible 4-ball partners.

They are LITERALLY a dime a dozen, and I can beat many of them even though I max out in the 270 to 280 range.

The have a 10 stroke swing in their average scores, but boy oh boy they can hit it a long way.... whoopee!!!! The problem is with some of these super strong gripping dudes, you don't even want to suggest a fix (which probably, but not always, starts with their f'd up grip) cause they'd be lost as an Easter egg with a decent grip.

So they keep on keepin on, telling you how far they just hit that 8-iron which they had to hit after dropping from the water hazard 50 yards left of the fairway.

HORRIBLE 4-ball partners.

he's just playing for fun....and hes a good guy. Don't really see what you are hating on.

not hating. you started this thread, what did ya want? dude definitely crunched it. congrats.

the point that other members were making is that they don't bow down to guys with a 1.8 that hit it 330, they beat 'em. ;)

that's great, I guess golf is not about fun, it's about who wins. I mean whatever helps you sleep at night man.

Golf is about whatever each person wants it to be about.

To me, for me, it's about competing with my own string of golf scores for
18 holes. What went wrong, what to work on. It's also about winning an individual match, but for recreational rounds win or lose is not terrifically important, just bragging rights and a few dollar bills, that are rapidly forgotten.

I really, really dislike playing with people that hit it in the woods, or leave it in the trap after 3 swings, and find it amusing, i. e. they sort of enjoy their ineptness. They don't take golf seriously. I'm ok with that, but avoid playing with them.

I also am irritated playing with people that employ no strategy. Several come to mind. This is in my 55 and up league. There are 2 guys on the low end of the age scale that can get it out there very close to 300. One of the guys in particular pulls Driver on every non-par 3 hole. Then you have to wait, and go help him find his ball. He understands what he should do, but gets off on trying to hit the driver. He occasionally breaks 80, but more often shoots 85 - 90.

The reaction of the original poster to any comment or criticism of his post is, unfortunately, symptomatic of our times. People are so thin skinned. They take everything personally. They put up something on a forum seeking to communicate something. When others express a viewpoint different from the poster's, the poster strikes back.

golf... serious bidnesss

Golf imitates life. How you approach golf is how you approach life, times ten. If you want to get to know a person's true character, play a round of golf with them. If they say they don't play for money, they're probably cheapskates. If they always want to bet, straight-up, regardless of their talent, they probably have a gambling problem and a very low FICO score. If they throw clubs and flirt with the cart-girl, they're probably divorced (maybe twice). If they carry a 2-iron and have a good tan, and hit it a mile, they're probably unemployed.
