A Heavy Swing?

Can some one explain to me the concept of the club feeling heavy, or a heavy swing. Recently I've started to slow down my swing, in an attempt to keep the left wrist flat. I've notice that I do have a better sense for where the club is, and I typically make better contact(more of a pinch). Although I have started to hook the ball more...

Just wondering if this is the feeling I should be shooting for?

Thanks

IMO - absolutely. that feel means you are more 'in synch' and that you are feeling 'lag'.

Width, connection, balance and tempo all can result from that 'heavy' feel.

Grip the club horizontally and parallel to the ground in front of the body. The more weight added to the clubhead, the "heavier" it feels and the more degree of "flex" to the shaft, due to GRAVITY (constant acceleration by the earth).

The same things (or "LAG" in TGM's term) occur during a swing, due to ACCELERATION (Newton's Second Law of Motion) against INERTIA (Newton's "First Law of Motion) and/or DIRECTIONAL CHANGE.

Under a given power, the "heavier" (or more "LAG") the club, the slower the swing, due to Energy = Mass x Velocity's square. And vice versa.

Under a optimal swing speed, which hopefully provides the optimal control (for precise contact or compression of ball), increasing the "LAG"/"flex of shaft"/"weight of the club" increases the "power" (or Energy) by the same token.

Heavy= RESISTANCE to DECELARATION from IMAPCTING A GOLF BALL.
Which is also very true due to Newton's "Third Law of Motion" (force and counter fource), and extremely essential to an efficient shot as well.

Have other of you noticed that it is necessary to slow down your swing a bit to keep that "heavy" feeling. It seems to me that when I get a little quick, I lose it and typically contact isn't as good.

Tball:

When you get quick, it is very possible to lose that heavy feeling. A few TGM guys have said "If you think your swing is fast, more than likely it has a lot of clubhead throwaway (deceleration and loss of lag). If you feel as if you swing is very fluid (i.e. heavy feeling) your swing most likely has tremendous speed and clubhead lag". This is paraphrased a bit but hope you get the idea.

When one gets quick, it is often due to one wanting to 'hit' at the ball from the top, startup...wherever. If you focus on bringing the whole club (left arm, clubshaft, clubhead = Primary Lever Assembly in TGM terms) to the aiming point, you will retain this heavy (clubhead lag) feeling.

Stand at address, flip the club around so that you are holding it on the shaft just below the club head and the grip end is pointing at the ball. Just stand there and hold it loosely and kind of waggle the the club for a few seconds. Then, turn the club around and grip it normally. You should really feel the weight of the club head now.
