A Lesson for all Tournament Players

Thanks for sharing Kevin - appreciate you putting it up here to help us all out. I hope to be able to compete in some local met section stuff at some point soon. The heartbreak is palpable in your post, but reading your post gets me excited to feel the heat. I felt it in college playing a much simpler game and i have longed to be good enough to try my hand at competing with some good players in this great game. I am working towards perhaps some similar heartbreak, but man just to feel the heat of real competition again would be awesome. Be well and thanks again for sharing.

Tournament golf one must be prepared. As far as mental mistakes some of the greatest have made em i feel the more times your in contention the less mistakes are made.
Looking ahead at a specific score or target score that will make cut or miss cut probably the #1 mistake club pro's make.
Hitting the 1st 9 fairways and GIR honestly one is thinkin course record i cant remember Nicklaus ever doing that in his career!
Shooting that number on the back nine will rip your heart out.

Thanks for sharing Kevin, you will get it done next time. I admire anyone who plays tournament golf and especially those of Kevin's ability. I'm still too scared to enter any tournaments.

Yes, thanks for sharing/venting. It's always cool to hear the thinking processes from those who are in the mix.

On a side note, do you have any video of your current swing?

1. Forgot to enter this year!
2. Puked on myself during the last round of the PNW Stroke Play, so I won't be seeing you in Hershey. Looking forward to watching you at the PGA.

The tree in the yard is starting to recover.

Hearing what this meant to you, after a 33 out you might have thought a 39 or such might move on. What trouble was short of 10 green and why wasn't staying short of the pin the only consideration. Why would you not challenge the left side of 11. Honestly asking . Not trying to be a wise a**. Great playing and I hope you get it done next time.

I didnt think a 39 would move on. My playing partner was 1 under and there was several good players in the field. I have very good distance control and rarely over shoot a green. It was my mistake to not consider other options but never thought i would go over. I did have the option of the left side on 11. However, the right side was lateral and the penalty for a potential lost ball on the left native rough is stroke and distance. When I work the ball I always trust that I will not over cook the shot. My only thought was to make sure the ball curved some and just got a little late. The problem came after the drop to be honest. No way, no how did I think a 39 had a prayer.
