Glad to see that you have a renewed interest in playing. While not absolutely necessary that a great teacher be able to play, I wouldn't say it is of no importance. People genuinely like to see their club pros play well in tournaments, especially here in the Met Section. I think if you (or a star pupil) play well it further evidences the merits of the method you teach. I know that my reason for visiting this site and working on my game is to improve so that I can be more competitive in tournaments. Hitting ten great drives in a row at the range or shooting 72 with your buddies is great, but does not compare with he feeling of accomplishment of having one of the top scores at the city or state tournament. Isn't that really how we rate the effectiveness of golfers, by their tournament scores? If golfers were ranked by how far they hit the ball on the range and how pretty their swing looked, Hank Kuehne would be well ahead of Jim Furyk on the money list.
