Mandrin, great posts as usual. However, all I want to know is how to teach it. Any success from anyone on teaching the power squat?

Brian, would you refer to this as a counterfall?

How can sitting be 'explosive'? Don't you get to the sitting 'position' by falling or squatting? It's a gravity thing. I can't invision it being explosive.

Please explain.

Thanks.
LiftOff,

An simple thought experiment will perhaps help..

Have a small 10 lb lead weight, attached to a thin cord, hover an inch over a hand, laying flat on a table.

Have someone gently lower the weight slowly till it rests on your fingers. Perhaps not very pleasant but you will survive.

Next have that person cut the cord with the weight again hovering one inch above the hand.

I am sure that there will be an explosive blissfulness that you certainly will like to share with the forum.

Don’t underestimate gravity. It is represents a considerable force. You just have to learn making it work for you. :p

Kevin, thanks for the compliment.

The Norwood ‘sitz’ is perhaps a bit tricky for some since we are not familiar with making such a small impulsive vertical downward motion.

There is a big difference between the ‘sitz’ and the counter fall. The 'sitz' is vertical and feels almost done before it even starts, very impulsive. The counter fall feels more like a vertical pole slowly toppling over.

The Hammer,

Easy big fellow. Don’t shoot from the hips without knowing why and where.

(#11) There is not much power from the sit down by itself. It is the extension of the legs or up move that snaps it with power. Mandrin I can’t believe you missed that. You should know that.

(#19) Both create power that is true. I guess we really do not know how much power is in the action of doing it. I would let the squat be a result of applied force and the lift be the reaction of that applied force.

I expect some form of excuse. Not just a simple change of mind from # 11 to # 19 as if not having suggested mandrin being nuts. Perhaps you can learn from Brian. He fights but when realizing he is wrong he admits it frankly.

(#17) You are not going on what Robert Baker says? Mandrin you have got to quit reading those bogus tips in the magazines. Robert Baker come on you got to be kidding me!

Please don’t twist information. It is very unpleasant. I don’t read Baker and am not interested in his ideas. It is simply an example being given of mainstream thinking.

You need to read what I wrote. I never said no power. I said little power. It is true you and I or Brian do not know how much power is created by this sit down as we do not have a way to measure it. Some day we will but for now I would rather work on ways for the golfer to hit the sweet spot more often so I am out of here on this sit down move until more proof is found about its power.

Funny logic. If applied for real no golf swing at all.

Golf has been and still is for a large measure a matter of feel not science. If we only did what has been measured and quantified one way or another, we would not be able to swing a club at all.

Any serious golfer simply tries out all kind of approaches till he has found an approach which suits him. No science or measurement required. Just curiosity, patience and common sense.

You need to check out positive transfer training. Things have changed.

Golfers don’t play any better now than before notwithstanding all the progres in equipment and courses. Perhaps cause instructors know too many buzzwords but no good at teaching the average bloke how to swing a club. :D

Mandrin: Thanks for the response. Great as usual.

I figure I've got a pretty good hold on gravity, or maybe I should say it's got a hold of me! Anyway, I use it but feel it's anything but 'explosive'. Now the push after the sit is another matter all together. That 'leverage' off of the ground meets my 'explosive' criteria.

Thanks for pointing out that there is a difference between the sit and the falling Brian frequently refers too.

I'll pass on your experiment thank you. Sensitive fingers. But that's one thing you wouldn't know. ;)

Ciao

You might believe that propaganda but I know different.

Hammer,

It comes across that you know more than anyone else around here.
It also comes across that you know things that NOBODY has access to.
Your posts are consistently condescending.
Your arguments are riddled with holes and inconsistencies.
You're a flip-flopper.
How about you engage that great mind of yours and contribute something useful instead of the constant derision.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

I know you are not happy with what I said about the Brian Manzella Show but I call as I see it. Sometimes it is a ball and sometimes it is a strike. Nothing personal as I was just commenting on the post and what I feel would make Brian’s show successful.

I guess I will toot my horn a bit.

I never said I know it all but I am one of the best golf instructors in the world still learning every day and a resume to back it up.

I am just sharing on this forum for free what I have learned and taught successfully for over 20 years. With over 10, 00 lessons giving, I think I have learned a thing or two.

I have worked for or with more top 50 instructors and tour players than the entire Manzella staff.

I have 12 patents on swing trainers which are used by most of the Top 50 teaching professionals and tour players including Major Winners on all tours. PGA, LPGA and Champions.

I would post more of my resume and sources of what I am talking about in the golf swing but it will just be removed just like this post will.

Here is a link of what I have been doing to help golfers it anyone would like to see where I am coming from.

So much irony in that sentence it's not funny.

Fair enough but nobody cares, especially when you're so quick to tell everyone about it.

I have worked for or with more top 50 instructors and tour players than the entire Manzella staff.

Again, you think anybody really gives a ****? You think anyone on this forum would choose to take a lesson from you over Brian, Tom, Mike, Damon, Ryan, etc.? PLEAAAAAAAAAAASE!

I bet it stays as an example of how ridiculous it is and as a tribute to your upcoming banning.

You've worn through everyone's patience. Change the 'tude or gtfo.

I did not respond to that post because it was simply a weak kneed personal attack unworthy of a response. Zero substance.

I guess I will toot my horn a bit.

You do that. I don't hear too many others tooting it.

I never said I know it all but I am one of the best golf instructors in the world still learning every day and a resume to back it up.

Really? So you say??

I am just sharing on this forum for free what I have learned and taught successfully for over 20 years. With over 10, 00 lessons giving, I think I have learned a thing or two.

So have all the Manzella Instructors.

I have worked for or with more top 50 instructors and tour players than the entire Manzella staff.

How do you know? And so what? Does that make you more knowledgable and a better teacher?

I have 12 patents on swing trainers which are used by most of the Top 50 teaching professionals and tour players including Major Winners on all tours. PGA, LPGA and Champions.

And how do you know if any one of those training aids have helped people beyond a placebo effect. What basis do any of them have in modern neuroscience and current learning ideologies?

I would post more of my resume and sources of what I am talking about in the golf swing but it will just be removed just like this post will.

Is this video your idea of an exciting programming direction? I'm glad I got your disendorsement. Long live the 11 degrees inside out move!

I think in your case the public wants what the public gets.

The Hammer,

You are giving me slowly but steadily the impression having a direct line to the Almighty, as you continuously are implying knowing everything there is to know. How come therefore, given all the credentials, that it does not show up in your various posts? Intriguing!

There is one constant in your posts, you are as smooth as course grit sandpaper. A little humility would not be too bad. Hitting a little golf ball straight 300 yards is just what it is, a simple ballistic event. Perhaps interesting, but nothing really to make a lot of fuss about. :p

Hammer, I think you need to rethink your texts and meanings a bit....
Your terminology is not understandable...
Take, "the right hip rotates into the left hip"...
That is physically impossible, as the hip joints are separated by a fixed bone, one cannot get any closer to the other, or "rotated into" the other.......

Perhaps if you use desriptions that make sense, people would be more receptive to you...
