Aiming your putter

How do you guys aim your putter? I've read and seen many guys align their putter with just their right hand. Why is this? I've tried but when placing my left hand back on the grip it usually changes where I aimed. I can't seem to aim and then put both hands on the club without changing anything. Thoughts?

I do use my line on my putter head, but don't use the line on the ball. I've had too many issues with trying to use the line on the ball and I really only use it when I'm really struggling (and trying something new) and on the practice green to get some idea on what my skid-roll looks like.

I've had better success aligning my putter with using the line on the putterhead when I check my alignment with a laser aid I own. The big thing is to properly swivel the head and get the eyes and face pointing in the same direction. Mike Jacobs has a YouTube video on this that's quite good.

The important thing is that your eyes (or you dominant eye) are in a consistent position relative to the ball at address. Most pros have their eyes directly above the ball or slightly inside like Justin Leonard. That way regardless of the length of the putt the "lie angle" formed by the ball and eyes will always be the same. The angle from the ball to the target, which is not always the hole, is 90°. I simply put my clubface at a 90° angle to my target line. (and pray)

I've been practicing aligning with my left hand to heighten my awareness of the clubface. Dunno why but it has worked not bad so far. (only in Stage One Testing)

I have always putted better using specific spots or aiming lines. I envision the whole line in preshot and pick a spot on the line. Preferably within a few feet but ideally something that I can see easily.

For some reason line is not something I feel comfortable being vague about, up to this point.

Conclusion:

Too weird.

Somewhat of a "locked" left wrist feels good though. And/or slightly tighter left hand grip.

Phase One testing.
