You probably don't practice as much as you would like - as rbaumgolf stated - 4 kids and holding down a job to provide for your family is really your main priority.

On a positive side, I have seen alot worse. Your swing isn't going to produce 300 yard drives any time soon, but you will probably play well enough to not feel bad playing on the weekends with friends and that might be enough for you.

Unfortunately I believe it is more of a swing makeover rather than a few pointers to make your swing something that you can compare remotely with a good player. I decided to give you my entire opinion and I appologize if you find any of my comments hard.

I find your set-up generally sloppy. Your posture is poor, your alignment of your shoulders and feet are about 30 degrees away from each other.

Your backswing already has a lot of errors because of your set-up. I have the feeling that you don't really understand what your trying to achieve during the backswing. You don't turn well enough to be consistant and your arm swing is slack and basically out of sequence.

Leading on - you throw and loose all your power in the first move down - you are the anti-sergio in effect. You lead on to having an impressive but completely ineffective flip through impact and you have lost all control of the club right where you need it most. You will never be able to control the ball in any shape or form with your current technique. If you wanted an example of throwaway - you would be a good candidate.

Basically IMO, if you seriously want to turn your swing around and play alot better, you will have to go back to the beginning - right back to your fundamentals

Good players have the club predestined by the movements of their swing into impact and unfortunately in your swing this is lacking. You might hit online sometimes yet you probably won't, no matter how good physically you are or how good your natural ball skills are. You additionally will never have control of the trajectory until you lead the butt end of the club into the ball instead of your flip.

Ouch..well I asked for it. I agree with the shoulder alignment thing. Brian has told me that at every lesson. As far as the issue with slack and throwaway, I see your point, but I did not have an actual ball in front of me and I did not want to tear up my sod, so it was more of an 'air swing'. If you analyzed my swing video from 3 months ago, Pre-Brian, with the reverse weight shift and over-the-top chicken wing you would have felt even more sorry for me. Thanks though.

I know from firsthand knowledge of myself, that when I first started working with Regoat I sent him a video of me just swinging the club with no ball present. That swing and my swing hitting a ball were two different swings entirely. I'd be curious to see you swinging with an actual ball in the way. Might look a lot different.

FYI, this smooth swing posted a cool 82 from the tips (5's) at Cardinal Club today with no 3-putts. Saturday it was an 87 from the 4's with FIVE 3-putts. My official HCP in the system is 13. Yes, I do have a large family and devote considerable time to work, but I live on a freaking golf course with free range balls, so I have no excuses. You will see objective improvement posted soon.

Arch,

Not a bad swing for a lawyer. :)

At Impact, your hands are behind the clubhead position, indicating clubhead throwaway. This is also one of my problem areas. As my teacher told me: "You're only 8" away from a good swing". Your hands need to be 8" more forward at impact -- more in the middle of your left thigh. Then you will be "sustaining the lag".

I tend to want to "do" something at impact, which means that I start slowing my hands down way too early. As Mr. Kelley said, your swing should make no allowance for impact.

I agree there are some setup issues, but the biggest thing I see is the 'lift and roll' in the takeaway, combined with either a) faulty grip, and/or b) way too much grip pressure

Feel more like a hockey swing... keep the butt of the club moving back at the same rate as the clubhead, or in your case, exaggerate it and feel like the butt of the club beats the clubhead back, until hip high, and get 'under' the shaft - by feeling the back of your lead shoulder as the key - hit the ball with the back of your left shoulder

Did you read this in your golf monthly ?
