I had the same problem today when I played (and was hitting hooks).....the fix was to change my Plane and add more Ext. Action....and make sure I didn't start reverse-pivoting from that either.

Now....why exactly does "swinging more left" (i.e. less from the inside...less underplane "swinging to right field"....and more Tracing a Straight Plane Line) equate to hitting LESS left?

What I could get from it is that it has to be a Lag issue causing a clubface issue.

i.e. you get yourself into a position ("stuck" as "THEY" say) where you just can't take that Lag as deep into the swing....so you end up Releasing it early....Throwaway.....Bent Left Wrist......closed clubface......

He hit the drive DEAD CENTER, but in a divot. Left with a delicate shot over a railroad-tie fronted semi-island green, DT hit it a bit fat and hit the wall.

I just caught a glimpse that DT was on Golf Channel today demonstarting his 5-wood (i beleive Golf Channel has filmed it during the Zurich Classic). He (DT) said you try to hit down and take a little divot with the 5-wood unlike "YOU HIT UP WITH THE DRIVER". What gives????????
