I am really getting frustrated. I don't know how one can hit so many good shots then lay sod on another. I use to hit thin (assume left wrist breakdown), but now I hit way to many fat short irons.

HELP!!!

PIVOT...

You have to remember to pivot with the short irons and not just use an "armsy" swing.

When I try the pivot while letting the pivot pull the arms through I tend to get the shanks. AM I pivoting wrong?

likely that your hands are getting off plane, you are 'lifting and rolling' -go back to the 'twist away' move and get the club 'up' and outside your hands

keep the clubhead outside your hands until hip high, and work on short pitch shots.

The issue is that you are very likely using manipulated hands to square up the overly open and off plane clubhead. When you just let the pivot do the work, you are 'lagging the hosel' and not the sweetspot

Keep the clubface 'looking' at the ball on your takeaway using the twist away move, and 'hold the twist'

split grip drills are helpful here as well
