Backswing Aid

I bought building blocks and Soft Draw and Conf. of a F.F. and got a lot of good fundamentals out of them. But I am stiil having trouble making a consistent repeatable backswing. I believe I am over extending my arms going back which causes me to either collapse at top a little or because I over extend I feel like I jerk the club from the top and by the time I get to the ball alot of energy has been used up. I have been using the drill were you choke up on the club and put grip into belly and make a quarter back swing keeping the butt of the club in your stomach. If I keep the swing going from that quarter position, I feel I get into a very solid position and it feels great. Is this a good drill? Is there anything I should watch out for in doing this drill? I was a good college player but now am a four handicap that is struggling finding a swing I can trust.

I have tried parts of the soft draw, had difficulty with starting backswing by stepping on right foot with lagging clubhead takeaway. When I tried that takeaway I felt like after lagging the clubhead in the begining, my hands seemed to cock almost too much too fast.

Spuds, post a swing.

Your back swing simply might not have enough pace...

Your back swing should be doing some "work" and have a good pace to attain a reciprocating motion. Check out your swing on video with a counter to see if your back swing/downswing ratio is reasonable. Your swing from take away to impact should be no more than 1.1-1.3 seconds with a +/- 3:1 ratio.

I've seen ridiculous improvements from Men and Women when I "Speed Up" a back swing that is too slow. It's like telling someone in 1491 that the Earth is round.

Hre's myswingwith a six iron, just to tell you I have six screws in my back, from 2 surgeries.

I noticed that when I do the drill when I keep the butt of the club in my belly and make 1/2 swings, the club face is more closed than what I am used to.

A. Looks like a really nice backswing to me. And your self-diagnosis seems correct. The only bad tendency is to stop your pivot and keep moving your arms. So it seems a little focus on LCT (even if it's just a thought in your head) and a little focus on continuing to make a full pivot - these things put you in good shape.

B. Yes, people knew in 500 BC that the earth was round.

What does LCT mean? I do have tendency to let my arms run out on my backswing. Thanks for the advice. I cannot for some reason post a face on view of my swing. I am try to upload my swings on youtube from video taken form an Inpratcis camera, which films you from 2 angles at the same time. Is anybody familar with Inpractis and howI can isolate my face on swing to upload.

I figured it out lagging club takeaway. When I try that with stepping on the right foot I seem to hit a lot of irons fat.
