Ball Position Question?

I know this has been an age old debate, but I have a question relative to ball position. For some time I've worked on maintaining one ball position. What has happened lately is that I have been hooking the ball severly, even with my short irons. However, when I move the short irons back in my stance, I seem to hit the ball much straighter. I'm wondering if other people have experienced this? And if so, did they correct it by moving the ball back in their stance. Swing plane is good and divots are straight, so the only thing I can think of is that I either can't maintain lag that long and therefore get a leakage hook, or just flat our have a closed clubface.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

You have two choices - you can use a constant ball position and change the aiming point for each club or move the ball and keep the aiming point constant.

If you don't use aiming points, you should vary the ball position, since the amount of slide in the pivot should always be the anatomical maximum of left hip over left heel.

The amount to move the ball or aiming point has to be determined by experimentation.

Mizuno Joe, relative to aiming point, I assume that the aiming point would be further forward with the shorter clubs than the longer clubs, assuming the same ball position?? SJW, aiming point is the ideal place you would want your hands to be at impact. Obviously you want your hands forward, how much is the question.
