Ball Speed

Brian's drill of hitting balls out of divots would be a good place to start. It gets more mash into your strike.

For any given Clubhead speed at Impact, the maximum ball speed would occur if there were Zero Deceleration of the clubhead between Impact and Seperation of the ball from the Clubface. Of course, that doesn't happen in a real golf swing, but the point is that anything that resists deceleration of the Clubhead during the Impact Interval will increase ball speed. So, the goal is to Sustain the Lag to at least follow through, by which time the ball is long gone.

Place a tee a few inches forward of the ball and try to Sustain the Lag all the way into the tee (a drill shown on Brian's tape).

"Treat the feel of after impact as though it was impact, even though the ball is gone."

-Homer Kelley

A great quote that I use often with my students.[8D]

Increase Separation Velocity. To do this requires a Flat Left Wrist, which moves steadily through the Impact Interval. Separation Velo is AT BEST 80% of Impact Velo, so first maximize what you already have. Then work on increasing the ceiling on Separation Velo, which is Impact Velo. For most, the best way is to maximize #2 Accumulator(wrist cock) and delay it's release.

Alternate between swinging a momenutus and the lightest ladies club you can find.

But even MORE important is learning how to "sustain the line of compression". OMG... did I say that right? Learning how to hit it on the center of the clubface is bar none the most important part of making contact.

Yeah, geometrically, "sustain the line of compression" through the center of the ball and the center-of-gravity of the clubhead along the clubhead path through impact.

Physically, keep supplying power or accelerating (regardless of the change in clubhead speed) through impact.

Ball speed, not how to increase clubhead speed, right? Clubhead speed will increase ball speed but only if you have great ball compression. A slower swing with perfect ball compression is better then a faster swing and a mi****,even a slight mi****.
Ball compression is the key. It keeps the ball in line, less negative side spin.

Last comment before I'm lynch this morning. If you swing, you CANNOT keep "supplying power" as was previously mentioned. Homer felt swinging was easlier then hitting because swingers "give it up" to centifigual force. If you fight this force you are in fact slowing it down. Give something up to gain something.
But if hitting, a relentless pushing, driving of the right arm and right shoulder is key. Muscle power.

From Homer's notes:
Muscle Power - Power Package Muscle Power is ideally 95% Right Triceps. The Right Triceps and Pectoral can handle the muscle requirements of the Downstroke and need no help from those on the left, whose feeble contribution makes any such thing as a true Left Arm Power source pretty much a myth!

Time to power up the triceps?
