Facts & Illusions Golf Mat
by Ben Doyle, 1st Authorized Instructor of
The Golfing Machine

" Ben's Facts & Illusions Golf Mat is a 6' by 10' vinyl mat which explains the geometric shapes and lines of G.O.L.F.

Based on Homer Kelley's The Golfing Machine. As Kelley stated, "It is only when you can understand the illusions of golf that you can then begin to utilize them."

It is for the student or teacher of G.O.L.F. who wants to differentiate the facts from the illusions in golf.

The mat helps the student to understand the precision of educated wrist and hands.

It teaches, illustrates and demonstrates the 3's of G.O.L.F.

It is a real eye opener - a whole book on a single page.

Brian and those that have used the mat: Could you go into what you get out of it? Is this more suited for someone that has no understanding of TGM than of use to someone that does ? Not cheap at $300 . Thanks.

The mat is a good visual for Ben Doyle's explanation of TGM. Doyle put in a significant amount of time developing it. His current mat is the fifth edition I believe. I do recomend that if you buy the mat, you also buy the companion video. IMO it brings swinging to light and gives you a hands on approach. Just pop in the tape stand on the mat(you do need a fairly large area for the mat however. It is pretty big) and follow along. The visuals and color coding for easy reference are excellent. Yes, it is pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Is it something that when you have a reasonable understanding of the swing you only need to use once and then you have got it ? Thanks.

Top Ten Reasons to buy Ben's Mat:

10. Ben's 50 years of teaching experience.

8. Homer says, "It's not the theorems but merely the shapes and lines of Plane Geometry - familiar to all - that are used herein." Same thing with the mat.
7. The Three Basics, the Hinge Action of an Angular Motion on an Inclined Plane, come to life on the mat on the ground even though they happen in the air.
6. The Twelve Sections are on the mat.
5. The mat is loaded with Ben Doyle witicisms and sage reminders.
4. All levels of golfers love it.
3. Many of golf's top instructors have and use the mat.
2. The $300 cost is less than the price of a high-end driver.
1. It flat out works.

P.S. Just one more thought for you, Hue, and any other G.O.L.F.ers out there. Brian's coordination of a G.O.L.F. school with Ben Doyle is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Ben is truly a genius.

Amazing - I didn't know that part of it. The story goes that when Ben set Tom up on the mat, he was stunned by what the impact alignments REALLY were. Here was one of the best players, suddenly realizing how much he didn't know. He sort of went silent, into an information overload lockup, and wouldn't get off the mat.
