Brian,

I am a new user to the forum and let me say that the last 4 days of reading and investigating these forums healed me. You see, I was suffering from a bout of the shanks, which one could say is like the flu if he did not care about insulting influenza virii everywhere.

I was sick, my game was sick and it was largely because I started listening and watching videos of everyone out there. BIG MISTAKE!

Out of brokenness, confusion and desperation I found your site. The differences between your site and others speak for themselves and your absolute disdain for cloaking your ego is refreshing. Here's why.

You're good, you know you're good and you're extremely proud of how good you've become. BUT, your conceited ways are tolerable, because your passion and caring for those of us that struggle with the game override your "largely-for-show" ego machinations. In short, I think you are the Rush Limbaugh of golf instructors, which for me is a good thing. (I like polarizing figures. That's how you get paradigm shifts.)

Anyways, just to let everyone else know, Brian does tell you how to get rid of the shanks in a video. (Oh yeah, and it's free.) He mentions getting the clubface off plane, starting at the halfway point on the downswing. I thought about how difficult this might be to time, although his logic gave me hope that my shanking could soon disappear.

Then I read his tips articles. The one that helped the most was the grip article. This excited me because the article described the grip clearly. So, the next day I headed to the course, armed with knowing more than knowledge of what causes a shank and a new grip to try. (As an aside, I believe strongly in setup, address and grip procedures because this will lead the body into the proper swing most of the time. In fact, these are the only influences you can control with certainty and in real time. Once you take the club away, your ability to control what is going on diminishes exponentially.)

Hitting balls on the range, the first thing I noticed is that by gripping properly (aka Brian's explanation) I was never going to have to worry about shanking again. My wrists, though somewhat awkward feeling at first, felt as strong as steel at address, even in a relaxed state. I also realized that I had been gripping with the heel pad too much on the side of the club. Getting that pad on top of the shaft is a subtle but very important difference.

Once I started swinging the new grip I realized a second benefit- a shank is nearly impossible because Brian's grip, in conjunction with centrifugal force, ensures that the clubhead is coming off plane at the proper moment in the downswing. How do I know this? Because I kept hitting it straight and before too long I was grooving the swing and stood amazed at the tall, powerful shots my irons produced.

Suddenly, I was on the other end of a shank- a well-struck, "pleading for mercy" ball flight. Brian, because of your free and solid advice, I can now cancel the Viagra prescription and live my life as a whole man again. Thank you for your passion and your instruction. I have let everyone know that there is something different going on over here in these forums. Every golfer can find something, and often many things, worthwhile here.

Hit 'em straight. Hit 'em long.

Lots of good stuff in here for sure......ya....Brian is the man.

Hey do you really have an afro?? Afros are cool. (esp. with afro picks)

BUT, your conceited ways are tolerable, because...

This is funny.....I laughed. Bad wording......but (I think) good intent.

Welcome to forum.

You made my day...

Oh, BTW:

I think, "egotistical," myself. ;)

shanks video

Do a search on forum - type in *.flv

A whole bunch of video titles should come up. Or *.wmv might work.
