The hands moving up while at the same time the club head is moving down toward the ball shallows the angle of attack. I don't think it is a good idea to actually hit up--a positive angle of attack-- with irons? It "feels" like you are hitting up though.

That is also my feel, like I'm hitting up on while still brushing the grass, or even taking a divot. It's just like Brian has described about having your arc in the ground and pulling up on the grip. It's how I feel I control my angle of attack. Since sort of stumbling upon this feel, my iron striking has never been better and my handicap is plummeting.

Let me add "off the ground". I went about 6 months with hitting all irons about 2 inches fat, so that is a pretty prevalent fear in my swing. I definitely enjoy the feeling of hitting up with the irons, but I don't think the clubhead angle of attack is positive--I haven't been on Trackman to measure it.

Have I missed something? Are any Manzella Instructors teaching a positive attack angle with irons?
