Brian? or others, How do you teach kids?

I have an 8 year old son who enjoys getting out and playing. Right now all I'm telling him is to act like he's throwing his arms at the target, order to get him to use his whole body. I'm trying to get the concept of just swinging and the ball will get in the way.

I don't want to overcomplicate things for him.

I'd like to know from Brian or anybody else, what do you focus on when teaching kids

Thanks

The future Lorena Ochoa. That is very cute.

I teach my 5 year old how to grip the club, and then try to hit a dot I place on the inside aft quadrant of the ball, and to swing hard.

My 2 year old has an amazing swing. Better swivel than half the golfers out there. I've tried to teach him a thing or 2 but it doesn't work. So now I just tell him to grip it and rip it. He just watches me and soaks in as much as possible. He has a great slo motion swing that he does, it rocks!!

That swing sequence was my son at 18 months- in diapers in the clip. He is 4 yrs now. I don't teach him ANYTHING but alignment. My 7 year old is harder because she has not been playing since she was 10 mos. I was trying to teach her how to not reverse pivot and my 4 year old from the video clip listened and tried to mimic what I was telling her. I quickly told the little guy never to listen to daddy on how to swing a club and to ignore what I was telling his sister.

Thus my suggestion is to tell them as LITTLE as possible unless you are SURE you are correct. My son learned with a wiffle club, so it may be a good idea to start them with plastic gear to get the motion down.

And show them good swings of tour players. Did you notice in the clip that he poses impact fix before he pulls the trigger? Have you seen Brian's Logo?

Hmmm....
