Brian: Thoughts on Steve Stricker

Brian:

Not sure if you saw any of the Open today or had the chance to Steve Stricker play. Any thoughts on his current move? He's struggled a bit over the past four years after starting his career real well. Really couldn't get the ball in play with the driver.

I ask, no only because he is sitting atop the leaderboard, but I'm a Wisconsin Badger at heart (yeah I know he played at Illinois, but he still is a Badger!).

Thanks

Dobber

His caddie at the time, tried to get him to listen to me, but, he is stuck.

Maybe the Daddy-in-law figured it out.

I really didn't watch much today becuase I flew, but I'll report back tomorrow.

I want to hear about why Stricker couldn't find a fairway for 4+ years. IMO, the trouble started when he was 4th on the money list and took $1M to change clubs to Taylor Made and that crappy bubble shaft driver.

I too am a Stricker fan since I spent my freshman year up there as a Badger and spent a little bit of time with his daddy-in-law and wife. Brian would love them both because not only are they are good people, but Italians, too!

I think that was part of it...Dennis is a okay teacher, but I think felt some loyalty to him. Dennis has (IMO) too big an ego to tell Steve he couldn't figure out why. I do agree that part of it was the Taylor Made driver...he was never really straight, but he wasn't as bad as he was hitting it!

He swing, to me, has changed from his 'dark' days. He used to get to the top of his swing, then add one extra turn with shoulders (or stretch with arms) that would get him a bit cross the line at the top. Now, it appears he has lost that...

Again, Brian, any thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Dobber,

Dennis' brother Larry on the other hand is a really good instructor, isn't he? I haven't heard a heck of a lot of nice things about Dennis. Do you know Jon Turcott?

MrDock:

You are right...Larry to me is just as knowledgeable but he is more low key. Dennis gets a bit more recognition because of Steve and being coach at UW. Took a few lessons from Larry and I think he is a very solid teacher. Can't comment as much on Dennis as I never took lessons from him. I do know Jon Turcott, but not personally. Another real good Wisconsin-ite trying to make it. If I'm not mistaken, hes up on the Canadian tour this year?

Yep, he's (Turcott) trying to make a run at things on the Canadian Tour. Has a helluva a nice swing.
