Wish both of them had studied some neuro-muscular biology, which pretty much explains how the body works to RESPOND to the golfer's INTENTION of moving the club by the hands (swinging/hitting the club).

Each undesired golf shot as the result of faulty move(s), can be traced back to the golfer's faulty intention/instinct. Unfortunately, almost all golfers (as well as instructor) literally pay attention to the (downstream) BODY REACTION instead of the original (upstream) INTENTION.

For example, when FOCUSING on "keeping the left wrist flat (or others)", the golfer is trying to "keep the left wrist flat (or others)" rather than "making a golf swing", which is supposed to be either pushing (hitting) or snapping (swinging) the LAGGED/loaded/heavier/pre-stressed club from A to B with the LAG constantly sustained.

Believe it or not, the body is geometrically and physically self-programmed to carry out the task in respond to that INTENTION based on the right knowledge (about a golf shot) and set-up. Again, not sure about if one can carry out a deliberate task with more than one thought.

Very very gutsy post here bts.. but one that fully has my endorsement. It's great to be able to recognize what the body is doing and how all the parts are moving... but they are only a starting point for the teacher to figure out what the hell is going on in that brain. Then a few points of reference are nice, but intention intention intention... the game is not only 80% mental.. it's 100% mental!! You simply cannot perform an action without the brains inducing the motion. And the brain is actually a lot easier to train than people give it credit for.

DSS--

Just out of curiousity, why did you preface your post by saying it was your first post, when you have a posting history?

notice the post date in the first post. It's a year old. EdZ brought it back to life to antogonize our host about the fact that he hadn't heard anymore about Brian's revolutionary theory on plane. The original post is irrelevant to EdZ's purpose.

Ahhh... thank you, sir. I did not get past the 10/26. One should never assume, should one. Looks like Ed was trolling in the backwaters. ;)

My question to you? yes. The original post, nope. I have never, and will never use an alias on any board. I'm EdZ on all boards I post on.

But you did bump the post.

Yes, but not because of the first post honestly. I was curious to learn more about Brian's view of plane, having just discussed my view in the other thread. I debated saying as much, but I figure people will think what they think anyway.

My question stands about plane. I'd like to hear Brian's views. I could care less about the first post (delete it if you wish Brian).

To be clear I am a BIG FAN of Homer's work.

To All- I posted this last year ( my first post!) NOT to antagonize anyone, but because of my curiosity. I am a GSEB, , and at the age of 55, I'm still trying to learn to be a better player and , more importantly, a better teacher. Tom Tomasello took me through the book, and opened up a whole new, wonderful world by doing so. I RESPECT TGM and have found the principles to be the very best that I can find, ANYWHERE. This old post is from the ONLY PERSON I ever met who was not impressed with TGM- he never got around to explaining why. As far as the Mac O'Grady stuff, sorry, but I have no idea where that came from. This fellow lives in Cleveland, and as far as I know, he and Mac have no connection. I have made sincere efforts to contact this person within the past year, to no avail. Please do not get riled from what he wrote...these were his opinions after only one read through. I was only trying to elicit an honest response to his comments from Brian, because, honestly, I did not understand much of what he said, just as I do not comprehend much of what Mr. Kelley is saying in the book. As regards TGM, I get an "A" for reading, but an "F" for comprehension. Tom and subsequent time spent with Alex Sloan has helped, but that book is just one TOUGH READ for me. If someone can SHOW ME what the book is trying to explain or describe, great- I can get it. But just picking up the book and comprehending, not a chance. Thanks to all of you for reading this...hope it explains some points raised lately.
