Hey, b-s .... if you truly love the game of golf perhaps you should be the one that alerts the authorities about a possible infraction of the rules.

Ask not what golf does, ask what you can do for golf.... :)

Instead of going around in circles with you, you should ask the USGA if there is a ruling on extra tape wraps upsetting the approved shape of club grip. I am only raising the question about extra wraps beneath the grip changing the grip profile.

You are proclaiming extra wraps don't affect the rules, so you should provide your proof with some kind of USGA ruling on tape and underlistings. Call up the USGA, and they should oblige you on this issue, and then you can make your proclamation with some authority.

I'm just wondering about it based on the Golfweek magazine revelations....

Let me get this straight. You're the one that is ambivalent about the conforming grip rule and
have grave misgivings about Bubba's driver grip being legal and you're just raising suspicions
because of a small blurb in GW describing Bubba's built up grips and you think I should call the
USGA. As BM asked earlier....are you high???

YOU should contact the USGA since you are evidently completely dumbfounded by this whole
issue that you put forth. I'm well versed with them. I don't need to call them about this matter.
I believe birly-shirly's last statement is valid.

Since YOU attended a USGA Rules Seminar, I was hoping you, a "golf pro", would call them... rather than having me, a rank amateur, calling them up in confusion. After all, you put up several pics of the driver handle, use extra wraps yourself, and you claim to be well versed on the Rules of Golf. As for b-s's potty mouthed comment, if you call that "valid"....

I've already told you, along with many others in this thread, all you need to know.
If doubt still lingers, man up and call them, it will serve you best in the long run.

Don't you have a sense of your awkwardness?

Yes, I do feel awkward since I only asked the question about extra wraps affecting the shape of the golf grip... and everybody seems to be opposed to verifying the issue with the USGA.... claiming it's okay but cannot be categorically certain. It's not a matter of consensus, it's a matter or Rules of Golf... which you seem to be ignoring.

Using build up tape to increase the circumference of the grip is legal. Bubba uses an oversized grip (1/32")
with 12 layers of build up tape applied to the lower half and 10 layers of build up tape on the upper half and
then another layer that covers both areas. This procedure creates a large grip with less taper and conforms
to the Rules of Golf. It is not molded like the grips in the pic I posted on page one and it doesn't have a bulge
or waist like in the pic below. From my experience with the Rules of Golf and the USGA, I already know this
to be true. If you do not believe me and you refuse to contact the USGA yourself to verify it....guess what??
You get the last word, knock yourself out.

Of course Bubba's grips don't look like what you posted because that non-conforming grip is externally molded with a waist and bulge.

However the issue is the effect of extra wraps of tape applied to the shaft and internal to a normal grip, which can create a small waist and bulge on the grip. I know, because I've done it to my GP midsized Tour Wrap grips... and there was a perceptible change to the external shape of the grip which could be easily felt by the hands.

The question is how much is too much? Care to ask the USGA if they have a ruling on wrap and underlistings?
