Bumping left hip to right field

I've been having a lot of joy since I got NSA and using a twistaway pattern but was still hitting a lot of pulls

Figured out it must have been because I was sliding my hips in the BS and having to come OTT on the DS

Anyhoo, started turning my hips a lot more actively on the BS as I twisted away and up with my hands. I found that at if I laid a club across my hips it was probably pointing around 1030 on a clock face (if 0900 was the target line). Then when I turned my hips from the top to start my DS I was still pulling it?

Then a eureka moment. Started bumping my hips in the direction they were facing at the top (1030 or say 30 degress right). Bang -- started hitting everything flush with a little draw. Played around some more and found the more angle I started this hip bump at the more I could draw it

So question -- is this a good thing? Or a band aid? Does anyone else play like this?

No this is ok, when people need to use the NSA pattern it's because they are an open faced slicer who has swung too far to the left for most of their golfing career.

So that's why we teach the NSA with a visually flat left wrist or even arched left wrist for some people and get them to swing more to the right.

When do know that the NSA person has started to swing too far to right field? Is it when the hooks come or pushes?

Jim, Ive deliberately been using more of an arched wrist at that top and I feel with that bump as if im pulling it down and through the ball. From someone who's always fought an over the top move with a lateral hip movement, the crossline motion feels very strange and I still cant seem to get it right with the driver without keeping the 'flipping' hands out of it

TTT - Maybe you are more inclined to hitting???

I've been paying a lot of attention to hip movement lately trying to understand it's effect on the entire swing. By far the DIRECTION of the bump does a lot to your axis tilt. Pushing the left hip toward the toes of your left foot is more of a slide that tilts you back. Not a bad thought for those who tend to come accross their body with an OTT swing plane. If you are already comming from the inside of the ball then this will lead to terrible duck hooks. For you it probably works because it does increase your spine tilt.

Now, before i get all worked up i want to be clear on what you wrote:

You are saying that people who come from the inside, who slide their hips towards their target will create duck hooks?

If they ALREADY "swing to the right" but don't slide their hips... the act of adding hip slide to "right field" will most likely cause them to increase their spine tilt even more and yes, duck hook it. Unless of course they manage to manipulate the clubface and push it dead right.

Do you feel like you drive with the right arm or do you pull with the left arm?

Are you physically strong? Or quick?

Im 6'1 and 190lbs. Im trying to get away from driving down and through with the right hand/arm. I was getting some big distances doing that (7i was 170 odd) but was always pulling the ball and having to aim way right to compensate. Using the crossline hip movement Im trying not to use my arms/hands at all but feel them getting pulled down and trusting the closed clubface (from the twistaway) gets me square at impact

You seem like a natural hitter. The crossline move with the 10-5-5-e closed stanced is natural for hitting. Why not go see an AI and learn hitting?

Hitting was the first thing I thought as well. Just don't have the 10-5-5-e memorized.

Not sure. As stated i've just been fighting this pull for way too long, and the newer move with the hands taken out of the DS seems to allow me to align correctly (railroad tracks left) and hit the ball straight .. dont seem to lose too much distance either?

Im not a TGM afficiando by any stretch but is it possible to be a 'hitter' and set up square and use the 10-5-5-E as my aiming point past the ball, with a slightly closed clubface? Or indeed a clubface which you close on the BS via twistaway and maintain into the DS as the hips slide crossline, turn and drag that arched/flat left wirst into the ball and out to the right - towards that aiming point?

I feel as if this is what I am doing with a wide takeaway and an upright swing plane (using NSA) such that I dont get too inside on the way down?

But, as ive stated ive no idea if it fits any TGM mould perfectly - all i know is I was hitting it SWEET !

Point the face at the target. Setup with a closed stance. Hit crossline motion out to right. Do not pull the hips left until follow through. Make sure the right wrist does not break down. Do not flip.
The ball should go straight with a nice draw.

Guys and mb6606. I've been playing this for a few weeks now and can feel this is definitely a good thing as Ive been melting the ball when I get this down. Been hitting the 534 yard par 5 hole on my course in 2 regularly, something I would never do before

The problem im still fighting is the pull hook. I *think* when I slide crossline I rotate my forearms too quickly so the clubface is closed at impact.

What I need is some trigger feeling/thought to help me bump that hip left and get that little 'pause' to allow my arms to drop before the release. Ive played around a little with feeling like I stand on the toes of my left foot, like hitting the accelarator in a car but its not *quite* working ... anyone got any more I could try, see if this clicks.. im so close i can smell it :p

Thomas, just my two-cents worth....:)
If you have a "true" pull-hook, then you are still swinging on an out-to-in path..
The "other" pull-hook is with a straight or even in-to-out path but with the face very closed. This generally gives you very low screamers...

For the "pause" you mentioned above, I have found that the thought of hitting down while my shoulders are still fully turned back helps, but at the same time firing my lower body right around towards target...

Hi,

In the hip slide, do you bump the left hip towards right field? I thought it is more a slide towards left, trying to get the left hip to position on the top of the left heel, which will create space for the hands to swing through.

cheers,

daniel

Thanks for that. Yes, I think im still a little outside-in. Roundhousing my shoulders a little too early

I like the idea of hitting down rather than 'around' after the bump, keeping the back facing the target a little longer. I'll work on that and let you know how it goes;)
