Cast vs. Forged

Given the comments by Wishon about forged vs. cast, I wonder just how much of this good feeling feedback is related to how the club is designed more than the metal process....

I do know that sometimes there is an unbelievably good feeling with some clubs and not such a feeling on others. I have forged clubs and have never felt ANYthing as sweet an experience with them than with a Mizuno iron - which adds to my conviction that the shape/design has more to do with it. Some of it may also have to do with the shaft. Hard to say.

The vibrations freom on- OR off-center impact clearly do have a relationship to the distribution of the metal--and I would guess much more than the process.

Obviously the vibration of impact would produce some feel in your hands which your brain would interpret into "something."

What i'm trying to point out is that the "feel" of forged versus the "feel" of cast is determined by the sound. If i put ear plugs in and gave you a cast club and a forged club they might or might not have different feels but the point i'm trying to make is that THOSE FEELS would be NEW and nothing normal because you're ears can't interpret the audible sound.

Think about it, do you know why some Scotty putters have "slits" in the bottoms of them? Because when you put with those the sound changes and emits more of a hollow "tink" which some people find comforting.

I can't agree.

I don't disagree that sound plays an important part in the putter and driver but I think the "feel" were talking about goes beyond auditory IMO.

How bout if you change shafts and grips? That wouldn't change the sound but would change the feel.

I would have to disagree as well. Feel by sound??? Can a baseball player not feel the difference between an aluminum bat and a wooden bat? Can you not feel the difference between a persimmon driver and titanium? I have played Endo Forged, Hoffman, Miura, and Cast. I can tell the difference between certain cast and forged with earplugs and blindfolded. Sorry Jim. Your wrong on this one. Next time your in Texas we'll do a taste test for a cool $1000.

It's obvious you haven't done those tests. Maybe it is worth keeping those magazines around.

Next thing you're going to tell me is that your nose isn't the main contributor to taste

Are you referencing the magazine that ran these tests? If so I'd like some more specifics on the testing.

Taste is not the only thing your tongue is capable of sensing. I could tell what I'm eating with a plugged nose just as I can tell cast from forged with plugged ears.

There's more to it than sound,

I believe that US Retail for 8 irons is $1100 with stock DG Gold - other shafts, etc. would run you more.

Yikes, I thought the $700 or so I paid was a lot. Can there be that much difference?
