Those aren't "off the rack" :)

I will tell you I have 2 Scratch wedges custom built and grinded and I think they were worth every penny.

ive held chikaras and hit like one ball with one and they are lovely! however i have 2miuras now instead as bit cheaper. but as glcoach mentions scratch ones are pretty nice too. theres a 58 and 56on ebay atm i believe. thanks

I have Scratch Wedges. The Chikara's weren't out when I got the Scratch wedges. Those Chikara's are a real treat to the eye though I've never hit one. I really love my Scratch wedges. The custom grind is great and make them a lot easier to use.

The Chikara's all have too much bounce for the conditions where I normally play. I'm looking for a 58 or 60 with really low bounce, and they don't mention anything about customizing orders. I've always wondered if special grinds are useful for players like myself that never open their blade. Maybe a P grind would work best for me and when I travel?

self mastery, i have a 60degree rac proto with about a degree of bounce. i reckon that would suit you. it also has a laerge m grind on it

Yeah, i've got two Scratch PDG's and they are great.

How well does the PDG play off of tight lies? Are you able to open the blade and hit high finesse shots without too much trouble?

Customer Support suggest either the PDG or one of the tour models. I'm interested in a 62*.

Self-mastery, you might want to talk to Ari or Patrick directly. I'm a TNC grind but now as I hit more down on the ball I think I could play the SFU. I've got a EGG 60* and it's so easy to lay the blade open and lob it on any surface including tight lies. I use that club for just about every pitch or bunker shot 60yds and in. IMO those grinds really do make a difference.

I tore up a high-bounce Vokey trying to hit golf balls off of the pavement like Stan Utley demonstrates. Needless to say I couldn't do it but I was trying to do it for fun. Someone over at GolfWRX posted that Stan doesn't play a stock Vokey but instead has a custom grind on this wedge (don't remember which.) With the grind on my 60* I can get the ball in the air with ease off the hard pack ground though I haven't tried it off the concrete.

*** prior to getting the Scratch wedges, nothing good ever resulted in me opening the blade on a wedge shot. It was an almost guaranteed wasted shot. The grind made a difference for me. Obviously practice and experience helped too but the grind did wonders...

I find them excellent off tighter lies and they do open up better than other wedges. Indeed email Ari (Owner of Scratch of course) and tell him your exact wants, he mailed back and forth with me a couple of times and advised me the PDG's. He's a top bloke mate.

I have 2 scratch wedges the SND and the SFU. Although I am a digger so i have not tried the PDG grind but I must say that they are the BEST wedges i have ever played. I have not had a chance to play with a chikara but i would go with a custom Scratch basically the same price.

If you have not had a chance to play in their wedge design studio.. It is good fun

Thanks guys. I have more questions for them: I'm a digger (down down masher) does the kind of lie you most often face matter more than your style of impact (slider, digger, driver, etc.)?

begs the question...

The fact that people are loving wedges with useful grinds....why , I repreat WHY, do the OEM persist with grinds that do not allow any useful shots???

100 shooters fuel the OEM market, and they just want a product with a 'name'.
Make it pretty, stamp your well marketed logo, promise greater SPIN, and most are happy.

I don't like hitting high bounce wedges off hard turf even if I am taking a leading edge divot.........

No way to get it perfect (esp. with sand and varying conditions) but if you have mostly tight lies you gotta be careful with bounce I think.
