Club Fitting Scenario

Interesting. I'm not a big fan of lie boards either. I read somewhere that basically the lie boards cause the golfer to think they need a more upright lie than they really do. And that doesn't surprise me.

My best guess with the fitting of irons is to hit off grass and use impact tape.

so it doesn't matter where the sole of the club touches the ground first?

you only adjust lie for sweetspot impact?

thanks.

Good point, getting stuck under plane and raising the handle might be the cause and not clubs that are too flat for you.

I'm not sure why they were flattened if you already had toe marks unless you meant to say heel marks.

Are your left misses from less than full pitches?

Wedges are very tricky. As you change swing speed and where you hold it all have an impact on the lie angle and they change so much because of how versatile they need to be.

Did they do the fitting at full speed and less than full speed? Did they do it for leading edge and midsole shots? Did they incude shots that's you choked down on.

Oops.......I misspoke.

I had heavier marks at the heel.

My left misses with my wedges were mainly on full [ish] shots.

My fitting was almost exclusively at full-3/4 shots. I didn't do any choke down shots and all the shots were primarily leading edge shots.

I was told that I would have better results with higher bounce wedges since I am a digger, so I'm looking to upgrade before the end of the year. I demo'ed a 58-12 Vokey this past weekend and I have to admit that hit some nice shots. I was nervous about that much bounce since my home course plays so tight and hard. But, it seemed to give me a little more room for error. I didn't get the chance to hit any flops off of the tight lies, but otherwise, I was impressed.

Quality club fitting out here on the West Texas tundra is a hit or miss proposition. The place I use is a Titleist Fitting Center, but I think it all comes down to the guy doing the fitting and how committed he is to doing the job right. Hopefully, he is on the right track with me.

If I find the article I'll post the link here. I do remember the article saying that you shouldn't do 'dynamic fitting' and should do static fitting instead. That was something I couldn't disagree more with.

Static vs. Dynamic Fitting

R3J,
Given the best of all worlds the use of both is the art of finding the correct fit. Exclusive use of one or the other is a recipe for disaster.
Good stuff everyone.:)
