Clubface alignment at setup for hitters and swingers

Could someone remind me how it is recommended that you set up your clubface (ie. slightly close, open, square) for hitters and swingers for a straight, full shot. I thought that I remember reading that it is different for hitters vs. swingers and long irons/woods vs short irons.

Moe Norman set up with his clubface "half open," about 18" behind the ball. Nicklaus set up with his driver face a few degrees open.

Is it not simply a personal preference based on comfort, adjusted of course for the ball flight desired.

Re the Allenby posts: Note how his coach and Robert arrived at STRAIGHT trajectory as the norm, with options for working the ball.
