clubface is way too shut at top of backswing

Any ideas what could be the cause of how to fix? It's basically parallel to the ground at the top of my swing. I'd like to say I draw the ball, but I guess reality is to say I hook the ball.

I've tried to loosen my grip, but either it doesn't work or my grip strenthens up again after I loosen it.

It looks like I have some type of wrist roll after my hands get past my waist, but I though if anything that would open my clubface.

Anyway I appreciate any help.

I do the same thing and I often hook the ball. The thing that helps me is concentrating on aiming my hands in front of the ball, keep my wrists loose, and a straight line delivery.

I have this problem occasionally as well--will actually feel like the club has twisted after I hit the ball. I have found to make sure that the left wrist is straight at the top of the backswing--not bent either way in flexion or extension --and then keep the arms relaxed and let the pivot bring the club head to the ball.

Make sure the back of your left hand matches the leading edge (neutral grip), and it stays that way during the swing.

Have you checked your grip. It's probably too strong. Or, you could be bowing your wrist at the top. A decent idea would be to use a mirror and go to a postion you like at the top, maybe copy a tour pro you like, and have the clubface in about a 45 degree postion up there, and then regrip it. Then keep that grip and come back to address and see if it's something you could play with, or at least hit some range balls with to see how it goes.

I had the same problem, Check out Brian's fix

Make sure you don't put your grip in your fingers at 90*(that was my mistake), Brian clearly saying to grip it under the heel pad but at 35-40*... and don't be shy about grip pressure, hold it firm with your last 2 left hand fingers (that was also my mistake I'll try to loosen up my left hand grip and I "lost" it at the top, Keep the same grip pressure!).

After ugly hooks and pulls, Now I really have to "work" in order to Square the clubface at Seperation, the CF is open a little - result in Pushes, and a few slices but no wonder, after a year with angled hinge!
No problem I'm working on Horizontal Hinge and I'll straighten that ball...

Of course that is all after I fixed my clubhead path, I'm make sure I'm on plane and not coming from inside.

This is my swing video working on Manzella Neutral Grip -
