Clubs stolen . . .

Two nights ago someone broke into my garage and stole my golf clubs - two sets! They also stole tools and basically tore the place apart. After going through the emotional process of anger, loss, violation, I decided it is ultimately just stuff and can be replaced - that's what the insurance is for!

I was playing a Callaway Excaliber driver, Ping irons, wedges, putter, and cleveland hybrid. I LOVED this set up for my game.

My question: Club suggestions anyone? What clubs are you playing and how do you like them?

I feel for you. I keep my clubs in the house but I still fear that all the time.
Right now I am playing Callaway X-forged irons and an FT-IQ Tour. I would say you should at least give the X-forged a look.

I would be crying myself to sleep at night.

Thieves pretty much suck. I had a toy hauler trailer with 3 quads in it stolen a few years ago. Insurance is ok, but still took a big pocket book hit to replace.

You will get a lot of different suggestions, but the best advice I can give is demo as many as you can and maybe even go to a good fitting.

A friend of mine works at a pretty posh country club in Atlanta and had his car broken into (smashed window) and Cobra blades stolen in the parking lot of the club during the middle of the day.

I'm a big Mizuno fan when it comes to irons. However, you may want to look at some of the component makers like KZG. Cleveland makes some really good irons right now whether it's player blades or player CB's or GI irons. Lots of good irons out there, so go to a place where you can try a bunch out.

I'd suggest the Adams driver. The A4 9015D and the Speedline are really, really good. Also try the Cleveland Hi-Bore XLS driver...probably won't hit it as far as the Adams line, but it's an accurate driver with a good feel to it. I've got the driver and 3-wood and love them both. I may change to an Adams driver, but I'm pretty sure I'll keep the Hi-Bore XLS 3-wood for awhile.

For the putter, I'd suggest getting fit for that first and seeing what type of putter produces the least amount of skid for you so you can roll it better. I like the Yes! putter line as they have a ton of different designs, a loft and lie that fits my stroke, and a bunch of different putterhead weights (which can effect the amount of skid you putt on the ball).

Also, you may want to check out the KBS steel shaft line for the irons.

Callaway pre-owned. Awesome condition, factory support, the best customer service in the industry. Call up and they'll usually give you shipping for free. I delt with a salesperson named Dan Harris and he provided exceptional service.

Ping Irons

After having Wilson Staff forged blades for over 20 years - I changed over to Ping S-59 irons a few years back. I bought them on Ebay for a great price and they have worked well for me. The best thing is that those Ping irons can't be dinged, etc. - I get the feeling that they'll definitely last a lifetime and still look good. Have them on yourshort list to check out.

That's why I like Pings! Don't have to baby em...or fret.

The only thing I am iffy on is glued in weights. Especially when I hear of em falling out.

Cobra blades are Tour issue Richie no? (not saying they can't be bought- just that they are fairly exclusive irons)

I am sorry for your loss. I seriously doubt that the punks who stole your clubs are golfers. I would contact the local pawn shops to be on the lookout for your golf clubs.
I would also suggest to keep your new set in the house.
After having all of my clubs custom fitted, it is such a pain to be fitted all over again. It really sucks when someone steals your clubs. Ask Morgan Pressel.

I don't think they were, but I would have to ask him. He's part of the Cobra staff, so getting some new irons wouldn't be hard for him.

That sucks man. Your homeowners insurance should cover the stolen property. You have to file a police report.

Thanks for the feedback & empathy. I am still a little in shock but home owners insurance will pay most of the tab, so I get to go on a golf shopping spree -

My irons were Ping rapture, simialar to the G10, basically game improvement irons. Since I started playing with them for 2 years my game has improved. Should I consider blades?

Maybe the question is: blades or game improvement iron? - is there really a big difference?

Most TOUR Players don't play blades. I play blades and like them, probably always will play blades. When I have trouble launching a 3-iron way in the air then I'll switch. Basically for me, I like the look and feel of them.

I am pretty sure you can order most of the "classic" irons directly from Ping. Be foreward however, they are pricey.

Birdie - I think Jay is right. I have heard and read the same thing. The prices are modern-set-equivalent ..... but the product, in this instance, in my mind, is far superior.

If the Ping Raptures were working well, then I would stick with them. Blades, most likely, are not a good idea. Seems to me that now is an excellent time to go and get professionally fitted.
